Outside of having to get the laser replaced now it's fine, but since Laser costs nearly as much as a new PS2 I'm considering just seeing if I can find more idiots on E-Bay selling a PS2 thinking it doesn't work and is only because of their lack of knowledge for proper care of electronic devices.

As far as technology goes if you follow all the guides for care of electronic devices down to exact specifics or better then any electronic device should last at least 14 years. Of course as new technology comes out it'll eventually become obsolete before then....
Mate of mine runs a site that sells PS2 parts along with other things.

          http://www.cheapmod.net/cat--Playsta...res--ps2spares

He's based in the UK but his prices are good.

There's also a nifty little defice to connect a slimline PS2 to the Hard Drive, just incase you do want to replace your old one.

Hmm, guess I'll need to go an convert the pounds to US dollars to see if I like the price or not. As far as the HDD there is a program you can buy that'll let you use any old External USB HDD with the PS2 so you can use the PS2 Slim with it as well. That I've known, the software is pretty cheap too.

            EDIT:

Yikes, price still a little higher then I'd like $52.00 - $69.00 for the Laser. I've been able to find PS2 of the same old style guarenteed to work still for that same price. Yes, I'm being extreemly picky on what I'll pay to repair the PS2. Partly being that I'm saving for the PS3 and gambling on FFXI being usable with it.

If not then guess I'll push myself to finally get it up-to-date on the PC again and just use it there.

Never really know, can only hope that there isn't some childish fight between companies or something to cause such an idea from not happening.

Yay for $65 computer after 50% Volunteer discount.

I've been running FFXI on PC, but in fact, my consoles do all still work, more or less...

Bad cable for DC, irreplaceable sadly, isn't made anymore. Means I can get S-Video... or I can get sound. Did get a VGA adaptor, though, which makes up for that... but I think the VGA adaptor might have been lost during a move.

SNES works if you make sure nothing bumps the cart while playing.

NES was out of commission for a while, but got it working after taking it apart. Case is broken enough I can't put it back together, but at least it does work.

Atari 2600... well, no one is really sure why it doesn't work. Occasionally it works fine. Usually it won't put out any signal at all.

If I recall correctly (Been a LONG time) the Atari's had a common power issue, not getting enough. Also though with every cartridge type system eventually the connections that meet with the cartridge can ware and not make a proper connection (Problem sounds like your SNES is reaching). If it isn't those then if you have an Ohmmeter sounds like it's time to test if energy is passing through the circuits right, might find a bad transistor to replace or something that may need re-soldering.
