    i agree. wow was too easy, ffxi too hard. i prefer too hard over too easy, but i wish i had a game that was somewhere in the middle.

    i wonder how this new middle earth online game is going to be

      Well, I wouldn't say FFXI is "too hard." It's so party/co-op dependant that although u might be doing perfectly fine, someone else could make a small screw up and ruin whatever u were doing.

      WoW is only hard because its solo friendly->lots of players lvling up to 60 mostly on their own->gets in raid->doesn't have the experience working/communicating with others->raid gets chaotic and disorganized->wipe.

        xp'ing isn't what is too hard. funding your character is (without cheating/rmt)

        i like the difficulty level for xping in ffxi, it feels about right. i liked the way you made money in wow, that felt about right too. now if we could just put the two together XD

          FFXI is not "too hard". I feel the actual challenge level is appropriate.

          Where FFXI falls flat on it's face is actually getting to the challenge - specifically all the LFG woes and stuff like that.

          And no, it's not about it encouraging "teamwork" or anything like that. A perfect team game would make putting together parties a lot easier than it is now, so that more people spend time in a party, socializing with each other, and actually doing teamwork, instead spending their time in massive amounts LFG. LFG is a *solo* activity.

          On virtue of it's soloability, WoW manages to bypass that for the greater part of the game until endgame, where it too starts suffering from a similar problem.

          You get the same amount of social interaction whether you're LFG for 2 hours in FFXI while chatting with your LS, or whether you're soloing for exp for 2 hours in WoW while chatting with your guild.

          On a purely gameplay perspective, I'd say both games are of similar difficulty. Just because you have to LFG for 2 hours in FFXI to exp, while you can jump into the thick of things immediately in WoW doesn't make FFXI the more challenging game in terms of pure gameplay.

            server has no problem for the last month. No complaints on my side.

            I don't really have time to read through all the posts in this thread but I came across this one, not sure if it was mentioned but WoW also has gold farmers. I'm not sure if you were implying that they don't in WoW but it's just as big a problem.

            As far as difficulty, I don't feel any MMO is difficult at all. I stand by the formula (If that's what you want to call it) time != difficulty. I also do not believe in "hardcore MMO players". When I hear that I just hear "I'm better because I have more time on my hands". It's not that WoW is easier or FFXI is harder, it's that WoW doesn't take as much time as FFXI to get to the endgame material. I personally like both equally as well, FFXI has a great community at the expense of time while WoW offers instant rewards at the expense of a strong community. Neither of them are bad, it just seems you can't have both. Instant rewards are great for those people who only have an hour per day to play (my schedule currently -- if I'm lucky ^_^; ) and great community offers friends, friendly players and...well...a community!

            Neither is better, people just have to see that people look for different things in MMO games. Some look for community, some look for the ability to just log on for an hour or two and then go do something else. I personally like both, though admittedly, my bank account does not. I can see what each game has to offer and the flaws in each of them, and both games have a fairly large amount of flaws.

              Re: oh noes! not another ffxi vs wow thread!

              Personally I think based on the past FF games, FFXI is reletively moderate to lvling up, but as far as getting gil SE makes it rather hard, thus this results in "Farmers" as well as selling/buying gil. Although i do like a challenge or two, the whole gil thing was totally set too high, I mean how much gil do you get per monster if any at all. They should have done it by lvl, the higher the monster the more gil, I mean I can understand getting like 16gil but getting that much at lvl 60 monsters is a bit too weak -_-;;
