"More to do" seems to be based more on opinion here. More to do as in sheer amount of activites, or more to do as in the depth of the activities? WoW has more to do in the sense that it has a lot of quests and PvP. FFXI has more to do in the sense that you actually put forth effort to obtain goals over a long period of time.

the quests in wow are thir means of xping. whether you xp with quests or ffxi-style, it's still xping. i beleve he meant things to do BESIDES xp grind but i understand what you mean.

and the ffxi vs wow may have been done many times before, but not by me. personally, i'd rather talk about this than complain about yet even more pol errors, and we discuss gilbuying all the time too.

maybe i'll make an "oh noes! not another gilbuyer thread!" later

The fact that we have gilsellers just help prooves in a sense how much attached players are to FFXI... How players take it so serious about gil and gears, even give it more priority than real money, is just a proove how involving this game is and how it can keep you attached, addicted. Items in FFXI has a LOT of value in most players' mind. Throw away a blackbelt alone is enough to make a monk with 200+ days played time quit.

server has no problem for the last month. No complaints on my side.

yeah, it looks like they finally fixed most of their server issues. i havent had any problems in awhile.

items and money are hard to obtain in ffxi. do you think this is a plus or a downside of the game?

meaning, do you prefer the "sense of accomplishment" the devs keep talking about, or would you prefer a "just give it to me" more of the time?

id prefer to work for my keep, rather than have everything spoon fed to me, it takes the fun out of it not to mention the sense of self aclomplishment.

hehe true x] its addicting because there's always more to achieve in a way. thus why WoW can get repetitive really fast (unless you're trying to hunt for epics, but that still doesn't compare to FFXI :D)

Personally, I like FFXI more than WoW. Everyone has different opinions, as that is why there is no absolute answer to which is a better mmorpg game.

I prefer a balance.

Personally I don't need a "sense of accomplishment" from a video game. I get plenty of it in real life. That said, I don't like everything spoonfed either.

I want challenge, but not to a point where it starts eclipsing real life. Many MMORPGs are guilty of this, including FFXI, and, believe it or not, even WoW.

I know the original premise of the MMORPG genre is to replicate real life to a certain degree. But that doesn't mean you have to replicate all the downsides of real life too.

It's like another relatively hardcore genre - flight simulators. Even hardcore flight sims don't try to replicate the boring 5 hour patrols - they put the player into the thick of things as soon as possible.
