I belong to a consortium of "mature" gamers. (We don't say OLD! lol) There are over 200 of us and each and every one has a 360. 1) It does not overheat if you have it in a ventilated area that is fairly clean of dust, pet hair, etc. Any electronic device that is stuck in an enclosed or dirty area runs the risk of overheating. 2) There are several great games out for the 360. Just because they don't appeal to your friend doesn't mean a thing. 3) The system is more than graphics and if thats all someone buys it for then they better damn well make sure they have a HDTV or stop whining.

Well there is a lot of news you can find pretty easy looking around online with reports of the XBox 360 having overheating as well as Harddrive issues.

The harddrive issue was a surprise to me when I found that report, but the overheating I had expected. I mean you got 3 full sized processors in there so each drawing out like 60-80 watts for a total 180-240 watts, just to keep it well ventillated means a completly open shelf in pretty much all directions with about 1-2 feet perimiter of nothing else near it.

Marketing wise there is no way you can demand consumers to do something like this just because your system runs so hot. For the serious gamers sure you could but like you just pointed out of the more mature generation only having 200 serious gamers, that's a drop in the bucket to the potential million others.

In either case there is quite a huge list of bugs to the XBox 360 right now. Not to mention these overheating problems will just be in greater abundance when it's going to be placed in a kids room. Hell the XBox 360 that was in display at the Best Buy near my house crashed 3 times while I was there, it was well ventilated from what I could see and still had problems.

In either case though that is kind of expected with a system that just came out. XBox is actually a fire hazzard, they had to recall certain ones because of the power supply had the tendancy to catch fire. There's a news article of it came out on the 23rd of a lady who was saved by kids pulling her out of her smoke filled house, source was found to be the XBox's power supply.

On the same note though turns out the PS2 Slim also had the same problem with the power supply, however it was also a limited batch and apparently the problem identified before any problems had occured.

It's still to early to make anything definitive of if there really is a problem or not. Still both sides should be known weather media ate it up or not, surpressing info is as bad as lying about it.

Besides that PS2 and Disc Read errors were known sometime after it's launch and just barely now had that class action against them. Either way it's just something we'll have to wait and see more of, some time after christmas we'll probably get more on if there really is a problem.

Yes I know all about the reports of issues, I am still breathing. But I don't believe that all of them are true. There are too many X-box/MS haters out there spreading the story around and adding "My friend/cousin/sister/aunt/dog has problems with......" or "I know/heard/had a psychic moment about the 360's having....." I've caught several people on various boards lying about it and its annoying. It's also funny how this overheating issue was being broadcast about on the internet even before they were released. "360's are overheating because the one in the kiosk at the local Wal-mart overheated!! BEWARE!!" Ya...ok...its in a kiosk with poor ventilation and turned on 24/7 for weeks and you don't think that it might develop a problem??

I find it funny that 237 people that communicate to one another regularly on irc, each owns a 360, none have had any issues (well besides Rebar who dropped his while moving it.....gg >.<), and suddenly there is rampant overheating issues, crashes, and hd issues. Adding that we live all over, US, Canada, England, Russia, Korea, and various other parts of the world (yes they imported for EXORBATANT prices, some even got them from Ebay), its funny that no one has had serious issues with theirs. As soon as many of the people that I know that own one start telling me they have serious issues with theirs, then I'll start thinking its serious. For now, a small percentage of people have had issues and of those there are probably some that could be fixed by improving ventilation or some other easy fix. But there are plenty of "haters" that will jump on the bandwagon and spread crap around.

On the flipside, I sense a bit of defensiveness on your part so far in this thread and others. "Maturity" goes both ways and the need to defend a product without having to be overzealous about it can be easily achieved without having to be bent out of shape whenever some fanboy/girl comes along to make fun of a product.

I myself have heard about the overheating of the Xbox units and this is a major problem in places where the ambient temperature in the household is already at warm (Try Hawaii or Guam for example) Being that this is the winter season in the U.S., many households will not see a problem ... yet. When you get into the warmer season, please stay tuned for the wave of consumer issues/problems that may or may not arise. Also, like macht said, it is common sense that if you have a unit with 3 processors running full time, you will get overheating problems. To deny this is stupid. Any technician worth his or her salt will tell you this.

I stated things I know and things that I have heard people say. It has nothing to do with "maturity". The manner in which I used the word mature in a previous post refered to AGE. Check it for yourself. I never said that 3 procs running didn't get warm so I am not stupid. I stated that the gossip was getting blown out of proportion.

And some of our members live in warm climates and they haven't had any issues. So the gloom and doom of wait till summer is an exaggeration. I had a house full of people over the Thanksgiving holiday. The stove and oven were running and the house was very warm. People would go out on the sun porch (which is not heated) just to get a brief cooldown. The 360 was on for approx. 8 hours and never had an issue.

That's kinda sad that sony would stoop so low to try to make the competitors go down with rumors. When I said Xbox360 overheated it's because I saw my friend's Xbox360 overheat in his room which was airconditioned and we live in canada so it's kinda cold here. I'm suggesting that possibly SOME units have a big overheating issues, and others don't. It's probably something similar to the PSP's pixel problem when it first came out.

Is it trustworthy? It could be more people just making up stuff to make the other company look stupid or look like a-holes. I think overall Sony has more fanboys than MS, but you can't count out the fact that Halo has plenty of fanboys who'd be willing to give both testicles to see that the 3rd installment does well.
Not to say this isn't all the doing of a 3rd party or just random rumors that get circulated long enough to become believable.
I know 1up has done interviews and such, are they widely considered to be a credible site?

I think anyone who compares systems(...Like omfg sony is so much better than ms...) are completely missing the point. As 'gamers' and not the casual guy, we should be setting the example of not being idiots. However, most gamers aren't smart... so uh, everything is what it is.

Anyway, the last thing we need is more fan boys at Gamestop... trying to sell me some shitty Game Informer magazine. EGM onry(I like to have my jokes actually be funny and the content be good).
