Ok i'm a lvl 42 DRG who knows in the next few levels i'm going to need some equipment that if they cost anymore i might as well sell my soul. I thought if i fished moat carps for 7k a stack i could make about 1million gil in a month, which is true but when i look at all the stuff that i need to buy, i just wanna cry cause i really dont want to fish for a whole year. I then decided to go to leather crafting hoping that i could get it up to 90 in skill and make snipers rings and sell those and any snipers+1 i may make.....well its a lot harder than i thought. i've made 200k off of fishing and thought that would be good to help me in leathercrafting...but i realized it might cost more than i thought and if the AH runs out of the materials i need, i have to go and farm them, and again i just dont have the time. I've tried camping Jaggedy eared jack, but with the fact that everyone else is too and it has a rare drop rate and i dont have the time to camp him..i gave up on that. I did royal jelly BCNM hopeing it would drop some good stuff...nope. So if i hunt NMs the drop rate is too low or gil sellers already got to them, if i fish i have to fish for a year, if i craft well i'd be doing that for a year too. So is there anyone that has some advice for making the Millions of gill i need to buy the gear i need so i'm not considered a noob or a bad DRG, pls help me. I'm on the Shiva server so if anyone there wants to help or wants to do a BCNM or something PLS I NEED HELP!!!!! T_T My characters name is kaylik fyi. Sorry if i seem whiny but i really need help, i am THIS close to buying gill, i just have to convince my mom to do that T_T.

Re: Gil help.
First off, DO NOT BUY GIL! Its bad, just plain bad.
Second, there are a lot of threads that deal with this same issue in more depth than I'm about to go into, so do a search and see what you can come up with.
Possible options:
1. Gardening, elemental ores make a lot of money, but require startup cash and patience.
2. Farming. Beehive chips are up to around 20k a stack on my server and I can get 3 stacks an hour subbing TH1.
3. Mining. Get to lvl 50 and go mine in Gusgen. Or go to Yughott grotto now. Buy pickaxes in Upper Jeuno for super cheap, find a map with mining points (mysterytour has them) and hop to it.
Yes, getting large amounts of money in this game takes time, but its doable if you'll just put your mind to it. Fishing does make money, but it also takes a lot of time to get to a point where you can fish for money faster than you can farm it or mine it.
Good luck to you on whatever you decide. (Unless you go with buying the gil, then may you rot in Ifrit's Cauldron for eternity )I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

Re: Gil help.
Whats your rush? the game won't end, so take your time a bit, do not buy gil, shiva's economy is getting bad as is and dosen't need the exta help, a lot of stuff in this game takes time, look at what you have and think about what you need vs. what you want, you don't have to have the best gear to be the best.
its not too hard to make some cash on shiva if you apply yourself.
if you want a game where all this comes easy though go play world of warcraft and don't mess up the shiva economy any more than it is.
if you want advice send me a tell in game, but buying gil is for lazy pansys who don't want to make a go of it themselves.
ps, ingame name is Lafaiel.

Re: Gil help.
Kaylik,
It's been discussed in another thread, on why buying gil is considered poor sportsmanship (Like I said, I'll stay out of the morals of this since it's so controversial and emotional for a lot of players)
Basically, you have been placed in a bad situation where greed drives prices ever higher and squeezes more out of every player to make up for "inconsistencies" and "losses" in a lot of area of the game. No one, I mean no one, will ever pass up an opportunity to fleece someone of an extra 500K to 10M if they knew it was simply how the "game" is played and if it's totally "legal." I have yet to find someone who'd go and put up their SH for 1M less than the going price, even well knowing that doing so still made him 5M more than what he paid for (Which could've been simply cashing in on some brownie points in an HNMLS) Instead, they'd try 1M more than the going rate. Again, simply put, this is greed in the finest expression possible.
So what can you do to keep afloat?
Nothing. That is to say, if it takes a whole year of moat carp fishing, then so be it. That's the breaks. However, if it's possible that you can obtain these items yourself, either through a network of friends or in an HNM LS, then you should explore those options. Crafting was never profitable since mid 2004, especially after the guild point system was introduced (this is when I first noticed the inflation of materials needed to craft lower to mid level items and when common sense and decency got thrown out the window)
If you're still interested in crafting, my only advice is you must allow time to mature your crafting in lieu of expenditure of gil. I know a friend who'd impose a gil limit on a mule and level crafting this way. Over time (several months to a year, depending on which craft) she was able to profit along the way and would never spend more than the alotted amount of gil that got started with. If it took a month for something to sell to get gil back, then that was how it was. You can't fight the system, so just work with it (Wasn't it Bruce Lee that said something about being like water, where you can seamlessly move from one form to another to suit the situation at hand?)
Anywho ... if you have the time to play, you have the time to explore all possible avenues to acquire your gil. This includes crafting, fishing, farming, mining, chocobo digging, logging, excavating, gardening, BCNMs, ENMs, NMs .... HNMs. Well, maybe the last one isn't something you can do at your level.
Forgot, if you're melee people and do not care to play mage jobs, these may make additional gil for you.
Warp II scroll
Teleport scrolls
Sleepga II scroll
I mean, this and a few more from various quests, can easily net you 2-5M, depending on your server and demand.
If you're mage onry and don't care about melee, then the only quest I can think of are the ninjutsu ones ...
Tonko: Ichi
Utsusemi: Ichi
Also, there's that ... was it Protect IV and Protectra IV scrolls? It was part of the Mog House line of quest. There's more quests and more items which can make money for you.
There's so many ways to make gil, I now get a bit flustered seeing new posts about it when you have so many threads about it already.
**
I also wanted to add an interesting idea for all you miners out there. All those Zinc Ores? Yah, time and auction fees can slow you down too much. Guess what you can do to speed things up and make money in the process? Need a friend to do this with (Both of you should be miners though)
Dump the zinc ores on your mules. A bit of invis powder, sneak oils, trading for Tenshodo fame, getting Kazham Air Pass and a run to complete the Utsu: Ichi quest. I know gil sellers are now doing this. You could theoretically get a couple of mules to complete this each month as you're mining. I know a friend calculated the break down and turns out you can profit an extra 2M a month from not selling zinc ores and doing this instead. Of course, if everyone did this, the price of Utsu: Ichi might go down and Zinc Ores will definitely skyrocket.

Re: Gil help.
It takes time, lots of it,I,m leveling my Drg now around 20,And
already farming everything of value for my set of chainmail at 24.
Nearly went broke buying all the best leather gear for my current lvl.
Might get some return on them at A.H.
But as far as a quick way of obtaining gill,Ihavent found it.
I know I am of low lvl,but it should come of ease knowing that I came upon my
new armor sets the right way.
My attitude will prob be the same when i hit lvl 40.
I'll just farm what I can,get my stuff eventually, and be proud of my accomplishment.
The way FF was meant to be.A Warrior's place is not to die,
But to allow others to live.....

Re: Gil help.
I first started farming when I was level 25-30. I farmed nothing but crawlers. The easy ones in sarutabaruta ^-^; Silk used to be my way of supporting my spells for a long time. Along the way I tried some tiger fang farming, making sheep leathers, and a few more things which aren't bad at all.
At 74 I started fishing. Also I used the money I got from farming to level my mule cooking up to 70-80ish. And started making sushi with the fish I catch with my main. About 5 months has passed since I started, and now I'm looking at 15-20 million gil income a month. And never have to farm again (except when I want kindred seals.)There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.
