  • FFXI Political Parties. Lets get pointlessly critical.

    Warning: I was bored.

There are two parties and two major platforms, making four total. Of course there are differences in each person.

    PARTIES. Loyalist or Counter.

Loyalist - Fans of SE. This party focuses on the good and wants SE to continue the good. Various platforms of this party: (Prime = Emotional > Solid)
    -Storyline loving
    -Quest loving
    -NPC leveling loving
    -Overall optimistic
    (Comparable to conformist)

Counter - Challengers of SE. This party focuses on the bad and wants SE to change a lot of things. Various platforms of this party: (Prime = Solid > Emotional)
    -Gear loving
    -HNM loving
    -Level cap hating
-Dislike of activies that don't transfer into solid content.
    (Comparable to socialist)

From there can be in-betweens, but there is a secondary group. Loner or Socialiser.

Loners like to do things solo if they can. They are against needing to rely heavily on the backs of other players. Loners are more often in the Counter party.

Socialisers like to do everything with other people. They wish there were more uses of big partys. Socialisers are often in the Loyalist party.

There is a lot more expansion of character than these 2 pairs of course. Anyway... just something I wrote up while being bored.

Looks like I'll be a moderate like I am in real life.

I like doing everything you listed, but only with friends.

Re: FFXI Political Parties. Lets get pointlessly critical.

        I like 3 person PTs, not 6

I like storyline, but not when it's difficult to progress (needing an alliance)

I like gear, but more for looks than stats

I hate NPC leveling, and leveling/skillup in general

I like HNMs as a test of skill, but not patience when it's so competetive.

There isn't a job in the game I really like playing as, though rdm is the lesser of all evils.

I have no idea what category I'm in.

Re: FFXI Political Parties. Lets get pointlessly critical.

i would be a socializer and a loyalist, though i have aspects of both.

i like to pt. ive been trying to level bst because i think it's a useful sub, but soloing gets so... lonely lol.

and yes, unless it's sacrificing a critical stat, 99% of the time i choose my gear because of the way it looks. if need be, i'll gear swap before the fight so i can still look cool the rest of the time. once i forgot to gear swap, and i couldnt figure out why my attacks were so weak lol... i guess forgetting to equip +20 dex or so does make a difference in your sata

i like the quests that seem to have meaning tho. all of the really useless ones like "fetch me four flint stones so i can make a fire" seem kinda pointless... i'll grind tons of vegetables to selbina before i grind those quests out. quests with a deeper story and meaning, like the npc quest for example, i do like. i feel it a nice touch to try to explain why everything is the way it is...

Re: FFXI Political Parties. Lets get pointlessly critical.

            I'm heavily Counter/Loner, but not 100%.

-Storyline loving: I don't care much for the storyline. I think it's pretty good, but I'm heavily put off by the effort required to push through the missions. Actually, I'm not put off so much by the missions themselves, but the social organizing aspect of them.

-Quest loving: Exact opposite of me. I happen to think most (not all) of FFXI's quests are not worth the time doing. There are certain gems, but I think they're the exception, not the norm. WoW's quest system - specifically the reward aspect is vastly superior to FFXI's IMHO.

-NPC leveling loving: I don't have an opinion of this aspect of the game yet. It does sound fun, but I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet.
-Overall optimistic: Not really, but I've become a lot more optimisting this past year thanks to the changes S-E has put through. Still, what I consider the big granddaddy of FFXI's problems - LFG - hasn't been addressed.

-Gear loving: One of the main reasons I like leveling is to gain access to new, cooler gear. Yet, I'm not fanatical about getting "uber endgame gear" - for the same reason I'm not overly zealous about doing missions. I don't like the social overhead that is required to get a lot of these items. The only hard-to-get item I really do want is Adaman Hauberk ;p

-HNM loving: Most definitely not. I'd like to fight HNMs, and the fights themselves do sound exciting. The loot is definitely a plus. But the whole camping/claiming system is utterly retarded IMHO.

-Level cap hating: [I don't understand.]

-Dislike of activies that don't transfer into solid content: Absolutely. Especially in a game that can be as grueling as FFXI, I want solid rewards for the effort put in. If I want a quick dose of fun, I'll go play a FPS, or heck, even WoW.

As for the Loner aspect, I tend to do everything possible solo. This really reflects the real-life me. I've done a lot of school projects that were meant to be groupwork by myself, and often came out with above-average scores on them too. I don't like relying on other people unless I absolutely have to.

AFAIK, I was the first NA DRG on Titan to solo extensively with the DRG/mage combo. Probably amongst the first DRGs period to use that technique.

I know I didn't mention this before, but this is exactly what a Counter would be. Some who likes HNM camping, but hates it at the same time. They want SE to change it.

Re: FFXI Political Parties. Lets get pointlessly critical.

i dont know about hnm or that sort of thing as i havent experimented, so, right now i think i'm a socializer loyalist, mainly because each time a good friend of mine quits ffxi, i lose a bit more the will to continueing playing, which leads me to believe that without my friends i wouldnt be playing, but i also wish some aspect of the game would change, but i am aware that this is still my favorite game, while not perfect, it's the best of the best

Re: FFXI Political Parties. Lets get pointlessly critical.

Definitely a loyalist, I'm having as much fun with the game as when I first started and whenever SE announces new content I really look forward to it. I never bitch about the things I can't achieve in the game because of various restrictions (namely time restrictions which prevent me from doing HNMs, Dynamis etc) because those type of things belong to people who put the time and effort into the game. I'm probably overly optimistic about things but I think that someone needs to be - too many people moan about things in this game I think, they make it a chore for themselves.

As for the loner/socializer part I'm definitely sitting on the fence here. I definitely love doing things solo but by the same token there's no greater satisfaction than accomplishing something together with a large group.

                            Storyline loving: some places yes.
Quest loving: some gems, fetch missions, well other that "fame" ><

NPC leveling loving: {Um..} no matter where I am, and no matter how many times I've called my NPC, she will not ever level. still 30. are they really sure a too weak to a 64 will give xp to NPC? i'm really feeling that's a big bunch of bull and she's only died 2x (mobs weren't too weak at those times).

-Overall optimistic: I have hope but I'm also sceptical at SE

Gear loving: outside of xp i go with what looks cool & w/ sword and shield, in xp i'm functional. emporer's hairpin, leaping boots: i couldnt care less.

HNM loving: havent experienced it, but if it takes hours w/ a full alliance and with at least one more taking care of adds and mpk prevention for a chance that something might drop that only one person can get. ie. RAID! ><

Level cap hating: by the time you hit 50, you should have <some> friends, who have <some> friends as well. i've been helped by a friend of a friend of a friend, same for AF. and with the 1st 4 only needing to be done once, it isnt too annoying. be a blm or rdm who has to kill a 74 NM surrounded by other mobs for G5. i think every other "test" will drop off an xp mob. i've been throwing away tests since ~55 (excluding coffer key hunting parties which actually caused me to start tossing them earlier.)

Dislike of activies that don't transfer into solid content: /agree

i'd prefer to solo but i've had fun in pts and being slightly social. i don't really like some of the "social" aspects of the game, and pl'ing is as boring as heck, but if you give a little you can ask for those favors later. sometimes i'll just pl to get my skills up (random party) and won't ask anyone for favors, but once my healing skill gets capped, it'll probably only be for favors then, maybe not but who knows?

This does not make sense. You just typed several lines above this:

Yet, the loner doesn't have to necessarily be an HNM lover, right? I'm not sure what you meant by this, could you explain yourself?

I usually find social-whores in the latter part and the loners in the former. I also usually find that most people who are "loners" or have a very small group of friends fall into the former. It's the attention seekers, drama creators and such that are in the latter (usually) Troll just about any EU, NA or JP forums for validation.

Edit: If I had to add to this, there should be at least 5 or 6 "political parties" in FFXI. Generally 90% of FFXI players, EU/JP/NA, fall into anyone of those 5/6 parties. The rest aren't so easily categorized and/or there aren't enough information to classify them.
