PC version already does something to that motion blur effect, just look at the space around a campfire in the game. The PS2 even does the effects that are basically in the motion blur realm, again campfire or even go to the Altepa Desert during a heatwave. Still would be stupid imo if XBox were to enforce that theirs must have something specialized.

I also agree the centralized network is not the best idea. It's much more powerful (especially data processing wise) if it's a difussed network design. This helps on load and staggers downtimes, I mean if all the online games were centralized to POL and say POL has a HUGE update.

You'll see the flaws in centralized location very quickly. If it difussed though, then like it is now if POL has a HUGE update or is down for maintenance I can still head to like SOCOM and play an online game. Even the best networking places and from my own networking classes they praised difussed networks, because they are better secured, and the unsyncronized updates allow for people to continue functioning without a huge interferance.

Oh and centralized networks have been tried before, so far they've always failed more then succeeded. Forgot which system (Nintendo or Super Nintendo) but a centralized network was done with them before too, it flopped horribly not only because of how young the internet was but just the whole centralized structure (The cost for it didn't help much either).

Basically it's a whole give and take on what should be centralized and what should be difussed. Hence this is were the good groundwork comes into play, I don't think PS3 is repeating the mistakes. In most of it that Sony even admits that were PS2s mistakes was it's SDK and overshot idea of networks current capabilities (They expected the US residents to be more updated on their networks then they actually were).

For the PS3 the SDK mistake definatly was rectified and now a larger number of US residents do have the network capabilities they were expecting near PS2s start. In a way their failure with it was half good and half bad. Bad that its SDK was so badly planned, Good that they network wise they were just a little to soon so they got to see problems and get them fixed in preperation for the PS3.

Semi-off topic, but I'm hoping S-E updates the music a bit.

The music is very dated and certainly not up to par with what's out there these days. Most of the tracks sound like crappy 1990s MIDI files. A lot of them are incredibly repetitive as well.

I'd assume this would be a lot easier to do than updating graphics.

Don't know if I'd say most are, some of them sound kind of like alterations of sound tracks you'd find from like Final Fantasy 6 when it was release for the Super Nintendo (Which would be 80s-90s stuff then). Lot of it though I do like, the areas from the CoP expansions have some very good sound tracks imo.

Re: Issues with the Xbox 360 version of FFXI

Don't think they're updating music, but new musics in expansion areas will probably try to be better the regular.

One thing about expansons though are new textures. It's more a management issue then technical, but PS2 really does hold things down(The reason we have 15 colors of the same set). You just cant replace textures without testing them on PS2's limited vram, but for expansion, the spent the effort of testing them, so we'll get more combos again.

They should update the older textures to be up to par with the new CoP armor. You can see the different easily.

Re: Issues with the Xbox 360 version of FFXI

ON TOPIC please. I have read all i can about the subject fron new articles and news released be S-E and it would seem that its 50 50 right now so its not clear wether or not it wil actually get a graphics update, secondly, what int he world are you talking about MIDI files? Pft most of the music on there is actual instruments (for PC atleast) but the music has gotten dated over the past year or so. to the point where i turn off the music and listen to my own. I admit the PC has some ups on the PS2 version but they are too small to really notice. This concern is also expressed in the pre talk about the game haveing "limited" number of faces to pick from. Sony needs to do a few things on thing that is a possibility is to realease a bigger hard drive for the PS2 to have more content (like very customized faces).
Also the expansions they release are all fine and good but they don't really affect the majority of the players, for CoP you really need to be around 40 to start it and explore. They should release a expansion that affects even the basis, like a new starting city or a new lands, like the mithra lands mentioned in one of the Vana'diel Tribunes also male mithras should be made avaliable when and if that update comes. Whos with me?

Sony stoped the support of the HD for the Ps2, so...

... kinda reveals how much you really know.

I wouldnt enjoy male mithras at all.

Hmm.. think they'll be releasing a ps3 version of FFXI??
                      I wouldn't doubt it.
I started out on the ps2 and didn't realize what I was missing until I bought the PC version recently.. (After a long absence.)
I'm not a graphics whore by any means but dang; it is alot better.

Well.......this is a sticky one. It is the most logical step for them to take. The sticky part is that they have already said the hdd will not be out on release day. Soooooo that means an even longer delay for FFXI. Considering the release date for the PS3 currently hovers around Christmas of 2006, it is a considerable wait.

Then you run into the comment they made in an interview. In the interview they said that the PS3's hdd was not going to be used for games. They said music, dvr, etc but not games. Now what the hell does that mean!!? Why would they do that!? Does this mean no large MMO's on the PS3?? If you take that comment and run with it does that mean there will be no FFXI on the PS3??

Bah! There is just so much inconsistency right now that it is hard to say what path they are taking. But one thing is for certain, its going to be a while before you can play (if at all) FFXI on the PS3. If they don't bring it out on the PS3 then they are just shooting themselves in the foot.

Well I wouldn't go this far. The PS3 is not going to be released until Christmas 2006 so there is a good year+ left in the old girl. Also everyone that owns a PS2 isn't going to run out and buy a PS3 so I think there is plenty of life left in the old gal.

As for FFXI on the PS2, it is a bit foggy. While they say in one interview that they are going to continue to support the PS2, you then read other articles where they acknowledge that the PS2 is hurting FFXI by holding it back. Sooooo what the end up doing is anyones guess! They did deal a blow though when they released the slim line PS2 and it does not support the hdd. Ahhh the inconsistency, don't you just love it? LOL

This is/has been stated at almost all levels as a ps2/modem problem. It can no be fixed as long as ps2 players are around. It is not as simple as simply getting a bigger HDD. PS2 has a limited VRAM, among other things, and putting stuff without rigrious testing will create more problems then it solves.

The only textures introduced are often from expansions because it's technically, and managerially easier to crunch out. Their goal is to expand, not remake.

There was more intelligent workarounds like the "everquest" solution, in which you have litterally 2 different texture sets, but that's another can of worms. I wouldn't like if if Xbox gets "360 only textures" we don't see. Not to mention the headache it would cause on the development and bugfix teams.

Everyone likes to get something better, but at the same time the other side wants to receive more money for that "better".
