If you've read their update notes, you'll notice that they've gotten new server hardware. Sounds more like an inability to understand how to install something correctly, rather than an inability to fix the problem.

true...but I work with laptops desktops and servers sometimes, and server hardware....can be sometimes....well hard to work with -.- but yeah they should know how to install and configure those things better :p

Yasu said that after the rest groaned and said (paraphrased) "that's not something we haven't heard before" and pretty much dismissed it (stfu). they have heard this for years, literally. The audience was not happy with the others' response.

at least they need "something" maybe a once a month, if you're lvl 7 or under the Homepoints for those 2 towns will send you to your Hog House (or starter Homepoint) and automatically set that as your Homepoint. or maybe not, I took a 1blm taru from windy to sandy (for the ring ^^) without aggro. maybe they just need the experience on mob dodging. then again it would be nice though ^^

EDIT: One thing I did find funny, after everything Sage Sundi said, Matt Hilton would say "what he said was <the exact same thing Sage said, rarely paraphrased>." we know! he's speaking English!

you know what, I cant stand people insulting the company of the damn game they play so much, then you guys defending them!......if you dislike what the company of the game you play is doing, THEN PLAY SOMETHING ELSE!!.

alot of you think they can just ban *snap* like that, but they cant, its not that easy, and some of you know this. Just getting sick of everytime a thread is started about somethign new coming, I always hear "oh this is going to suck" or "oh SE sucks" or even " oh 1337 skills cant be used now " just getting plain SICK of it all.

Well, applying your logic of "if you don't like it go elsewhere", people could tell you to go to another forum. Unfortunately, you'll find that all FFXI forums (even ls forums) will have people upset with SE. Given the recent events with service outages, many people have a legitimate right to be angry. (Though some spouses, parents, significant others, etc are probably quite happy! LOL) But with any online game you are always going to have detractors The only way to make a point with people like that is to back up the positive side with evidence they can not refute. Telling them to stfu or move on to another game never works.

As far as bans go, SE can ban whoever they want, whenever they want. It's like a resturant that can refuse to serve you. It's their choice.

No they can not ban anyone anytime, they have to give a reason and warrning, not doing so is against the agreement.

I would think "we dont like you" or "we have evidence that suggests you are involved in RMT" would be enough. If someone gets banned for repeatedly saying in tells that they are gilsellers or gilbuyers, well then, you shouldnt joke about it if its not true. I dont see why they cant run continual parsers on the /tell and /p logs of suspected gilsellers. They may not always be open about their endeavours with outsiders, but I'm sure they discuss it w/in their little groups.

LOL You go on believing that. They've already stated that they'll do what they want, when they want with their game. The only thing they would never do is a mass banning without good cause. This would create bad press and thats the only thing they are concerned with. An individual banning for an obscure reason wouldn't amount to a hill of beans. They'll ban whoever they want, whenever they want as long as it doesn't create a big stir in the community.

Well from the last few posts I can assume the discussion turned to something about SEs right to ban players and such. Then goes to state with Kilea-D saying it is against their agreement. That is actually false, there is a reason that nearly the last thing ALWAYS played in the Terms of Service Agreements is basically something like "We reserve the right to make amendments to the above terms without need of your prior knowledge"

In other words if they see it fit to do so they can change the agreement terms when ever they want how ever they need to. These are similar agreements you'll see with EverQuest and multiple other MMOs or even just about any product fitting the conditions. EQ GMs at will have risen players and assisted them with the game, the EQ GMs can do this because of that companies stand point on how the GMs should interact with the players.

There is even a story floating around from EQ (I'm sure you can probably find it online if you look around for it) of their GMs doing things such as allowing a hacker to show boast his abilities but ban him just before he gets a finishing blow on a monster that shouldn't of been soloable. Even actions of over 50+ players being raised by the GMs of EQ after immediatly banning 5 players that had trained the monsters in a particular zone.

Now for the rights and wrong in terms of what the FFXI GMs can do, as it seem to stand the FFXI GMs are suggested to give a reason before doing such actions. This is a set policy by SE in how they choose to run such operations, if at any time SE decided to change that rule they could if it is even a rule that the FFXI GMs have to follow. Every company runs their game different and what they allow their GMs to do changes from game to game, in some the GMs are given a lot more breathing space to do stuff in others they are not.

For example the Anarcy Online GMs you will always meet at least 1 of them within 48 hrs of your first character being created. The GM shows up for basically two purpose, to introduce themselves so you are aware of their presence and to give some starting pointers (Movement, messages, etc...). FFXI GMs do not do this, instead they enlisted the Mentor System in which players can help players.
