Apparently a rep from SE is taking community suggestions on how to twart/eliminate MPKs. If you got a good suggestion, wouldn't hurt to let them know.

    Thanks Yyg!

well truthfully, this site doesn't get near the amount of traffic (thank god) that alla gets. but secretly, i suspect PiNG didn't sleep with the right people

What gets me is there's so much BS that goes on at those forums, I almost don't believe their claim. But there have been some decent suggestions. They should have announced something in the Viewer about it first.

Funny thing is, they say they monitor forums all the time. If they did then they would already have seen suggestions on how to stop this. So are they reading the forums or not?

Re: SE taking suggestions on how to combat MPK (on alla)

So much of the suggestions are just plain dumb. Going to Alla's community to ask for people's intelligent input in a serious matter is like going to a mental health clinic and asking the patients for their intelligent input on how to diagnose their problem.

                ...

A large number of non-HNM related MPKs are caused by people who derive their entertainment and pleasure by watching other players reaction to their own action. The rest are accidental or caused by players that do not usually have consideration for other players in the vicinity (Usually underaged players who have no business playing FFXI in the first place and generally incompetant players)

The majority of all MPKs in HNM or endgame related events are strictly as a result of direct competition in those events. When you have a body of players competing with other bodies of players, nothing will be sacred and this is usually the case with very rare monsters that have the potential to drop very rare and very desirable items.

Because of the nature of this direct competition, it stands to reason that problems with sportsmanship will always be present and it will be inevitable, unless there's cooperation between the vying factions of players.

In short, if you want to reduce the number of MPKs ingame ...

(I believe SE is researching into this because they are trying to cut down the number of GM calls that are related to this issue and it must be a major financial problem that they are actually trying to do something about it)

... then you need to remove the cause of the problem. Such measures will be unacceptable and unfeasible in any event.

-Remove all endgame activities and HNMs
                -Make all drops worthless

However, we're all relatively compromising and willing to have a bit of problems while still having something worthwhile to do with a capped out job. Here are a few of my own suggestions which I don't feel like posting on Allaka-crap.

                Protection of the Engaged

This method ensures that most encounters will be immune to outside or external interference. The process is as follows:
                1. Upon the NM/HNM being claimed, there will be a 5 second pause, in which no one can do anything. Basically, any attempts of botting or any such external devices will render completely useless as the claim is noted permanently to the winning party.
                2. After this duration has passed, the party that claimed the NM/HNM will be sent to a zone, much like the GM Jail. This new zone, or "protection zone", will be the exact duplicate of the zone in which the NM/HNM was claimed. In other words, if other monsters were cleared out, all of that data will be carried over and show the area as being cleared out.
                3. Players in the party will not be able to leave the zone until the NM/HNM is dead or the party is completely wiped (A short timer, much like those that appear in a BC fight, will appear, giving an opportunity for a reraise, but not long enough for players to abuse it)
                4. The players left behind in the zone can either choose to leave the area or wait.
                5. In the event that the claiming party wipes to the NM/HNM and are unable to revive themselves (At least one party member) in the set amount of time, they will be booted completely out of the zone and if in a dungeon, completely out of the dungeon as well. Any reraise effect on players will also be removed upon zoning out of the temporary "protection zone." Also, there will be another time, which goes into effect once one of the members of the wiped party receives the effect of raise and accept it. There will be a time limit in which the party must inflict damage greater than the regen rate of the NM/HNM or the battle will be forfeited and the process after this is similar to a party wiping without anyone raising in that time limit.
                6. Upon the re-entry of the NM/HNM into the zone, there will be another pause of about 5-9 seconds (this timer is random) and then after which players will be free to try and claim.
                7. Repeat steps 1-6.
I like this idea. It removes the problems of an encounter that has too many people in a zone, it removes the probabilities of MPK and also it reduces drama over theft of a claimed NM/HNM. It also removes the need to have a GM around, provided the system works as it is suppose to.

                Perma-lock on Claim

This is a no brainer. The party that wins claim can no longer lose claim unless all members of the party die or if there isn't a single member that is within aggro range of the NM/HNM (This eliminates the ability for players to "kite" an NM/HNM)

I have a few others, but need to think them through.

It's bullshit, it has to be. GMs or SE Employees arn't allowed to post on public forums and admit that they are who they are. Plus look at where it's coming from. At most it's probably some Mod who's compiling the best, legit e-mail suggestion using the replies of players to form a valid suggestion/argument.

Typical trash from a garbage forum.

This is a joke right? If not then SE should play Anarchy Online, they allowed their playerbase to give them suggestions like that and the whole game went in the crapper imo. Besides that why the hell would they need to go out for the suggestions when FFXI Online's website provides a section to send in suggestions and about anything.

Lot of those suggestions are just downright dumb, and could see them being taken advantage of in a matter of minutes.

I have trouble swallowing it because I've seen Allakhazam pull many pranks before. Besides that FFXI Website they've done a questionaire on it before, why wouldn't they just do another and focus it to the MPKs? Something about this just smells like 5 hr old fish.
