A few of my gaming mates are really hooked on WoW they play it every day and I want em to play FFXI but I just cant convence them. I think WoW is utter crap, its all like cartoons and its just a game with not much effor put into it apart from a load of quests. How could I get them to turn to FFXI instead ? Any suggestions lol

Xephar, here's the main thing you should be asking yourself.
Are your friends having fun?
That is the most important thing about gaming. If you're having fun with a game, then why move to another game?
You're no friend if you think your "friends" playing WOW is stupid or ridiculous. They are having fun and that's all they need to care about. Maybe you should ask yourself, "am I having fun?"

I have a friend that played FFXI and then went to WoW when it came out, heck he comes over with his Laptop and he plays WoW while I play FFXI lol, and we just talk about our ingame experiances.-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Trying to get mates off WoW and onto FFXI
WoW is the ecstasy you learn to hate after a while. So damn addicting. Eventually I got in a GM's face and was permabanned. Only game left to turn to was FFXI.
Yes WoW is friggen addicting.
The Community brainwashes you to keep playing to be the best and have the longest 'e-peen'.
Sorry to say but FFXI has DULL+POSTIVE community.
While WoW has a ENERGETIC+NEGATIVE community.
Do you want to play to be bashed in the fast-lane?
OR
Do you want to play it safe in the slow-lane?
In the end it's a matter of preference. You can be a king or a street sweeper, but everyone dances with the Grim Reaper......

Re: Trying to get mates off WoW and onto FFXI
FFXI is really a niche game. WoW caters to a much larger audience.
If I were to pick a random person off the street and guess which game he/she would prefer, I'd wager towards WoW. FFXI simply demands too much for the average joe to stick with.Pounce (RETIRED) Mithra Bastok R.7 Titan server

FFXI is slower yes. But safer? nah...There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

If you're the kind of person with no sense of humor, easily angered, have varying moods and have been known to exhibit violent behavior, then stay away from PvP servers.
If you are having a bad day, log on a PvE server instead and chill out there.
I think with those nuggets of wisdom, you can safely enjoy a PvP setting and find entertainment in things like being ganked and corpse camped! I know I did

Re: Trying to get mates off WoW and onto FFXI
I don't think WoW is a bad game, but when I see all my friends playing it and talk about it for 24 hours, it pisses me off. I can't play any MMORPG right now (college stuff), so when all I hear from my friends are how they raped some raids, I just feel excluded.
Well, because of WoW, I guess I found out which of my friends were actually douchebags. XD

Re: Trying to get mates off WoW and onto FFXI
My level 60 warrior was on a PvP server, and I'm not even sure why I stuck around. There aren't words to describe the immaturity, ignorance, and petheticness of the players on PvP servers. The society is completely backwards as well; the most idiotic person becomes the cultural icon whereas the more intellegent players are just washed away in the impending sea of ignorance.
If your friends really like the game, let them, and find other friends.

Re: Trying to get mates off WoW and onto FFXI
my advice? just wait, you get to 60 in a few months, either raid the same instances over and over again or have nothing else to do really.
If they are having fun well props to them, I won't play wow for the fact the whole game is not built around community, you can solo, why group at all?(I can do that with any console rpg) too easy to reach endgame and you never depend on anyone else so no teamwork is involved unless you raid and have hours to spend doing so. FFXI is a niche game, its very hardcore and not aimed at the casual gamer, but I love it, I love the teamwork involved and teh fact your friends may be playing a different sub forcing you to go find someone else to pt with, thus making new friends sometimes, nothing is handed to you in this game and the sense of accomplishment is awsome, the only game that I see myself switching to would probably be Vanguard.
for now though, I left eq2 with vastly superior graphics to come to FFXI, and never regretted it. Just wait and see is all you can really do.
