I don’t get it. I played Resident Evil, Perfect Dark, Dino Crisis, and Parasite Eve. When I played Tomb Raider, no one called me names, and when I played Oni, no one cared.

I’m not saying I only play games with girls in them. I’m only trying to point out just how many games have female main characters.

So anyways, I finished Final Fantasy 6 and X-2 (along with all the other ff titles except 3) and I decided to try out ffxi. Ever since that fateful day, I’ve been picked on, made fun of, and been called names. I’ve had to endure constant sarcastic remarks from my ls and I’ve been hit on by complete strangers who didn’t even ask whether I was a guy or girl. I had one person accuse me of being gay, and I had another accuse me of harboring sick twisted fantasies

Why? Because my character is a chick, but I’m not. And why is my character a girl you ask? Cuz if I’m gonna spend the next 800+ hours staring at the same toon, it had better be something interesting to look at. I didnt know the rules were somehow different in online games, but even if I did, I still would have chosen the same one.

I really don’t get it. There are lots of games with female main characters in them. I don’t pose as a girl, and I don’t lie to people telling them I’m something I’m not. I’m not a pervert. I just like the way my character looks.

…But what really gets on me is that one time I got hit on by a mithra

Anyone in the same boat as me, or am I all alone in vanadiel? lol

Plenty of people play female characters. Sometimes they just look cooler. People will always be idiots, so don't listen to them. You already made the most common argument; who's butt would you rather have to look at for hours at a time?

I say don't worry about it. Unless you're actually pretending to be a girl, there's nothing wierd about it.

On another note, playing female characters in certain games has...advantages. Try playing one in Ragnarok Online or WoW. Random guys will give you stuff all the time XD Especially in RO. I remember in WoW my friend and I made female chars and dueled, and some guy ran up and yelled at him not to hurt me and dueled for my honor (...and lost XD). In RO a guy offered me the best weapon -in the game- for nothing. What he didn't realize was that my in-game char was male, too. I rather enjoyed letting him know XD

Yeah, you're going to get hit on if you have a female character; people always assume that just because a person's avatar is female, so is the person at the keyboard.

I can't say I've played as a male character (Unless you count me playing on big brother's Galka...), but I understand hwo you must feel.

I know of a friend who plays as a Elvaan Female but in reality is a male (No, he's not gay in school. -.-). He's dealt with problems such as that. Most of the time when he informed others that he was a male and not female, and they came up with that being gay deal, he would simply tell them that if he was gay why would he have told them he was a male before they tried hitting on him? He had a smart remark for anything, I guess after a while of that attention you come up with some great material.

Anyhow, just ignore it. Let 'em be! If people want to be moronic and ignorant, I say we let them and allow 'em to learn from their mocking.

Well when a main game doesnt have a choice between what char you are, thats why no one says anything...

Also...its a 3d model..if a male 3d model causes you to be uncomfertable...then wow...

i met a person in-game who said he looks irl just like his char, and i thought, how boreing... i can understand picking a toon the same gender, but picking one that looks just like you? give me something more interesting.

i laugh at people who hit on me in-game. its fun tellin' em im really a guy.

I refer to people by their character's gender if I'm uncertain about their real gender. I'll admit I'm put off by a female character admitting they're male. To me it's like I'm talking with somebody in real life and suddenly they admit that they've been tricking me, wether purposely or not.

I believe people should be who they are all the time. A lot of problems can be diverted if people weren't purposely or not purposefully pretending to be something they aren't.

Although it is just a video game, so I get over it pretty quickly.
