NEW interview with Sage Sundi -- secrets revealed about ToA
Re: NEW interview with Sage Sundi -- secrets revealed about ToA
Even being on GMT and as a result severely crippled on party invites I still think abandoning a party ethos is a bad idea. Sure, it'd be nice to solo for better than terrible xp if and when I can't get parties, which is the majority of the time before 10pm, but most of the fun I've had in this game and in Everquest before it was from the interaction with people in parties and on raids.
I fail to see how they can make all jobs able to solo on a balanced basis without inherently changing that job's strengths and weaknesses. How is a brd going to be able to compete with a ninja on number of kills per a certain time period for example? The time it takes a brd to solo a mob at 75 I can read War and Peace. Does a bard then gain 400xp per EP-DC kill for every 100 the ninja or a "speed-killing" job would receive?

FFXI has it's own style and is based on people relying fully on each other to achieve things. Soloing to a limited extent might be alright, the the spirit of ffxi is working and leveling together. I don't want to solo to 60. That's not FFXI. That's WoW with FFXI graphics thrown on top of it... So...you might as well just go play WoW. Maybe do an FFXI mod on it or something. I dunno. But if they ever make a drastic change like that to FFXI then the whole basis around which FFXI was built will be totally ignored.

dont take this the wrong way because i Levelled drg when it was first released.
I NEVER waited more than an hr as an attacker job NEVER. I went past an hour i had 3 options:
1)log off do something else
2) create my own PT , You DO NOT need the "perfect" set up to exp.
3) take care of my questlist, craft , gil hunt.
If you need to wait 8+ hours I suggest finding employment the benefits are much better.
I never understood how people can wait in front of a pc for hours without doing anything.

So they're supposed to change the very spirit of the game just because 2 classes aren't getting the kind of attention they want? You know...I've played a lot of jobs across two accounts...and I've been on all ends of the spectrum. I've waited for days for a party, and I've quite literally waited 30 seconds for a party. But I still don't care who has what trouble getting what party when. If you want to solo to 60 go play a game that lets you solo to 60. This is not a solo game. It's a team oriented game. That's what I like about it. And if people don't want to team up with you it's not the fault of the game, it's the players you should be blaming. So please please stop advocating turning FFXI into a WoW clone. Just go play WoW.

You fail at reading comprehension. At no point did I advocate turning FFXI into a solo game or a WoW clone. Don't try and bend posts to suit what you're trying to say thanks. My post stemmed from your seeming lack of understanding of party invite dynamics for a group of jobs which are currently saturated in game. Being a rdm you pretty much have the refresh market sewn up so you're a cert on invites. Try being a sam/mnk/drg/drk/thf and competing for a party slot. You said you waited days before on another job and if you think that's acceptable to do week on week, month on month then I question your sanity. Most people don't look forward to staring at the walls of their MH and twitching everytime the text window moves or wondering if they dare go to the restroom in case they miss an invite.
And Taz, playing drg at launch and playing it now is a world apart. I don't need to explain why but in short the perceptions of most people have been coloured pretty negatively towards a drg's dps.
Didn't even mention the issue of gear levels coming into party invites and the fact that gilbuyers with top end gear will get DD spots before less equipped but possibly better players the majority of the time.
Re: NEW interview with Sage Sundi -- secrets revealed about ToA
I'm not a fan of people tossing useless insults around so I simply won't do so. I'll let you come up with the inane insults and unwitty remarks if it really makes you feel all that special. Have fun. But If I basically say I dislike the fact that someone wants to turn FFXI into a solo game, and you come around and say "Oh well hey, how can say that if you having played this poor hated and unloved melee job?" then unless you explicitly say otherwise I'm going to take your remark to mean you disagree with me. No one is bending your point. You inferred you wanted 60 solo play just by the nature of your comment and the lack of a substantial information along with your cool little one-liner. I did not see your following post where you say that leaving the partying model behind is a bad idea. As a result there's probably some miscommunication between us. (bolded for emphasis but I'm writing more because you seem to feel the need to be a smartass for some reason) But I HAVE been a sam/mnk/war/thf and I HAVE competed for party slots with other melees. You simply assumed that I didn't for some reason. And if you're waiting for days, week after week and month after month then like I said before it's STILL the players fault and it's YOUR fault for choosing that job knowing full well how the players are. It's also your fault for spending your time that way and I question your sanity for even attempting to do so. Because as a melee I never did. But more than anything else it's the fault of the gaming community. Nothing more.
I know full well how the jobs are saturated in the game but it's still no reason to screw up the game concept. If you think it is, then like I said before, go play another game, because the game concept is WHY we play this game. I can't really make it any more simple for you than that. And if you're questioning my reading comprehension without understanding that then maybe you should go back and read my post again. Hopefully you should realize that my post was not a debate on party dynamics but was about the worth of the game itself as party based and why it should not follow some solo to 60 model. That's what my post was about. I said that last thing people who truly loved the game wanted was for the game to revolve around level 60 solo play. For you to make the comment that you did in the first place doesn't make any sense if you truly understood that. Don't discount my knowledge of the game's dynamics because I don't have a full list of jobs in my sig and because it makes you feel good to complain about something. You'd be making a mistake.

I didnt play dragoon at launch , since dragoon wasnt at JP launch. We got it a few months before NA version was released.
I leveled to 31 before i went to smn but went back to it off and on.
maybe because I PT with primarily Jp or NA friends that know me. i have NEVER been asked abotu my gear before i got a spot in PT. Nor have I asked about other peoples gear durign a PT unless they mention it.
The onyl thing I require in my PT's is food, not the best food, just food.
Re: NEW interview with Sage Sundi -- secrets revealed about ToA
ahh you guys need to calm down D: no one wants to make FFXI into a solo game, it would be stupid to do so and i don't think SE is that stupid. To be able to solo at higher lvls would be awesome, that's all.besides FFXI can't turn into a WoW clone, they would have to almost remake the entire darn game.
Re: NEW interview with Sage Sundi -- secrets revealed about ToA
It's not that I was totally freaking out. :p At first I was just pointing out that FFXI is just fine the way it is. But then people started getting touchy about stuff and I got touchy right back >_>

Re: NEW interview with Sage Sundi -- secrets revealed about ToA
If solo play does become a serious part of this game, I hope there is an unspoken limit of 1k-1.5k xp/hr. Above that, and people will start doing it full time and ignore partying complete if possible. I've talked to too many people who played WoW and heard too many horror stories about WoW's endgame partying scenarios w/ people who make the worst noobs in dunes look like mmo gods.
Not to mention, if it does become possible to solo 90% of the game, how do you prove to a prospective hnmls or other groups that you busted your butt in parties and learned party dynamics, that you dont just know how to solo your job very effectively. (A players true skill and mettle is seen in rare instances that arent easily reproduceable)

Re: NEW interview with Sage Sundi -- secrets revealed about ToA
I have two ideas for SE... they would help STPT and mission STPTs and even HNM LSes, which is the way to go in FFXI.
1. In-Game Calendar, to set dates.
2. The ability to set someone's 'reminder message' which would appear like a server message everytime someone logs in FFXI. It could update for itself. For example: "Leveling STPT"(Name) "Tonight"(Date/Day) "7:00 pm"(Time).
