Re: Could PC FFXI ever get graphics update?

This program is easily found for d/l for free also. I just figured since mentioning the names of windower's isn't allowed that talking about the name of a program that assists bot programs wouldn't be allowed either. Meh, go figure, no one knows what they can and can not post.

i play on PS2 atm, im thinking of getting it for Xbox360 when it comes out. PS2 graphics are pretty horrible compared to PC graphics though. im hoping that it will be a huge improvment tho.

Yeah I read a similar interview, possibly the same one as another poster in this thread, where the interviewee said it'll be possible but with an expensive video card. Well, I guess the first question is: what are they qualifying as "expensive"? I have a GeForceFX 6800GT.. Along with the rest of my system specs I have to imagine it would run an enhanced FFXI fine. I mean, it's probably safe to assume they're not going EQ2 on it and making everything a DX9 showcase. My system runs EQ2 very acceptably with moderate settings.

I've tried the drawdistance mod (man, does it make the world look so much better) and my FPS don't even flinch. Stays consistently right around 29 FPS... with all effects turned on and maxed out.

If all we're talking about is increased texture resolution and increased draw distance, perhaps enhanced shadows and higher FPS, without increasing the number of polys being drawn, I can't see how it woul be *that* bad a drain. Unless the engine wasn't programmed with that in mind for the PC and wouldn't handle it as efficiently as it could.

I've always thought Vana'diel was a fantastic looking world. To see it in an enhanced state would be like seeing it all over again.

Re: Could PC FFXI ever get graphics update?

FFxi PC version is very CPU heavy, and not very much GPU. So much of it is limited to CPU, memory, bus speed, etc, the "number crunching"

This is a reason why people complain about dyanmis and Jeuno because, it's all CPU.

Graphics card side, that we know of is draw distance, some effects, and resolution.

Oh and it doesn't use DX9 at ALL.

Many of the features of a shinny new GFX, is oblviously in terms of ffxi. So don't expect your card will do much.

Hopefully they will offload more onto the GFX as 360 rolls around, but realistically, they can't do much to impove it, because the CPU has been strained already, while backward compatible with PS2.

From the bits and peices, motion blur is a possiblity, and perhaps some more AA. Just because the 360 is powerful doesn't mean ffxi will use it all up. SE likely, didn't even really bother to optimize codes much to get it to run well.

In the end I don't think SE is spending a lot of resources to better the PC version, only see where common codes exist in 360, and hand it down. The good thing is, they're taking advantage of the fancy ATI card in 360, so all newGPU call is going through DX(360 api set), and PC is a step away.

Re: Could PC FFXI ever get graphics update?

I hope they improve the FFXI graphic engine with FFXI for Xbox360 release ^^
Its said they wont improve the textures quality but they will improve resolution and let Anisotropic Filtering and AntiAliasing do their work properly and not have to force them from video card
            Sorry about my english
