Needless to say, I cant get on the game, and if I cant get on the game in 3 months I'm not bothering to come back (sorry I am not digging an extra 100+ dollers out of my pocket to buy new cd keys, its not worth that much to me.

Sadily, I found out about the agreement when I read the manual, AFTER I had already started in. Had I red the entire manual and this bullcrap of a agreement I had to accept to play the game, I probley would never have joined. But I was already in and I might as well make the best of it.

I've had a wonderful time, but it still is omnious to think that if someone had their card canceled on them (like if they lost it) while on say a 3 month bisuness trip, it woudl be very hard to fix this before losing what, two years worth of work? I really do dissagree about SE disposing of CD Keys when POL accounts expire. Its rather cuthroat...
And you wonder why SE is rated a F in consumer Reports for Customer service there policies are the worst in the entire industry. Yet they still have the most customers?

Any legetimate bank will issue a new card/number if you request it. You can't expect a company the size of S-E to make exceptions to people on a case by case basis. They don't have the people trained to make those kind of decisions not to mention because they deal with so many customers, it could and would be abused. S-E has clear rules, which no one takes the time to read, that are followed by their customer support.

If your bank account was overdrawn paying for FFXI, then maybe you should concetrate on getting your finances in order. If they are, and it was an honest mistake, get a new debit card number and use that. If you're mad about CD Keys, well, tough. That's your own fault for not reading the rules and canceling a FREE POL account. The only thing you pay for are Content IDs and you can subscribe and cancel them whenever you want.

I recently decided that I wanted to start playing again and was looking for a way to re-activate my account but couldn't find any info on the playonline site. I started up a live webchat with the technical support folks who proceeded to tell me that because my account has been inactive for more than 90 days, my CD Key is now invalid and all my account info and characters have been removed from their system. He also stated that in order for me to play again, I would need to purchase another copy of the game and use the CD Key from that game to start a new account.

I urge you all to carefully consider the act of cancelling your account, especially if you ever want to play again!

        Thanks,

Yeah, this definately isn't a scam. It's been a known fact that after 90days (3Months) PoL removes (deletes) all characters related to the account. As well as the account itself. The CD-Key is the account.

Unless PoL decides to hold another revival period, there's no comming back without buying a new copy of FFXI.

I believe the differance is between cancelling your FFXI Conetent IDs and canceling your free POL account. You can restore Content IDs, I don't think you can restore a POL account.

Cancel that ID and the second character will still be there until you reactivate it.

You may have canceled your PoL account, which is something completely dfifferent. You don't pay anything to use the PoL viewer or services. This is the account that gets deleted after three months of being canceled.
Trust me, I cancelled my IDs. I had to bring them back up when I brought my account back up.

Yes, S-jamz is correct, that is the difference. If you goto Play Online and cancel your XXXX1111 account, then you just screwd your self it it's over 3 months.

but if you go into FFXI and cancel content ID's, then you're A-OK!

The keys are the same for the PS2 and PC versions. I can certainly understand not wanting to pay this either, but do note that for $30 Vana'diel Collection will get you perfectly valid POL Viewer, Tetra Master, FFXI, Zilart, and Promathia reg keys which you can proceed to use w/ either version of FFXI. No point in rebuying the overpriced PS2 version.

...okay, the edit button alt tag says edit/delete message, but I'm not seeing any option that allows me to delete it...

Actually they got rated F because the 20 or so people who did lodge complaints were not satisfied with SE's answer. But then again, these 20 people more then likely wouldn't be satified with any answer they got, that's just how some people are.

But when you consider the actual amount of people who use SE's services, and not just FFXI, but any and every game/film/product SE released in the US, 20 people is not a lot. That 'rating' is one of the most innaccurate things I have ever seen because it's based solely on those 20 people, and ignores the hundreds of thousands of millions of other satisfied customers.

I left for about 3 months when my bfs cancelled his credit card and when I came back on all I had to do was put a new credit card in and I was away. No problems at all!

what people are not understanding is that when the 3 month time is up, after you stopped paying on your account, you have a CHANCE of loosing your information, the longer you leave it, the more of a CHANCE you have at looseing your info, but that is all it is....a chance, you may not loose it...and you may loose it, it is the gamble you take when you let your account go unpaied for 3+ months.
