*** WARNING *** DO NOT LET YOUR FFXI ACCOUNT BE INACTIVE FOR MORE THAN 90 DAYS!

Doing so will void your CD Key and you will never be able to play FFXI again without purchasing the software again.

I recently decided that I wanted to start playing again and was looking for a way to re-activate my account but couldn't find any info on the playonline site. I started up a live webchat with the technical support folks who proceeded to tell me that because my account has been inactive for more than 90 days, my CD Key is now invalid and all my account info and characters have been removed from their system. He also stated that in order for me to play again, I would need to purchase another copy of the game and use the CD Key from that game to start a new account.

I urge you all to carefully consider the act of cancelling your account, especially if you ever want to play again!

There's a difference between killing your content id's and killing your account.

I killed my content id's for about 4-5 months, came back with no problems.

my friend killed his pol account, and bam had to buy a new game =\

Once you cancel your POL account for 90 days they reserve the right to remove is as they see fit. If for some reason there's in influx of new accounts and they could use the space they'll probably clear some old ones out. We already know about this though!

Cancel content ids and not pol. Problem solved although you still risk losing your character after 90 days.

thats retarded, other online games such as warcraft and EQ u can give out your CDs to who eva and it legal, the thing those companys do is charge you for the KEY but FFXI they get you with buying new game, i'd think they would make more money lettin ppl give out cds to copy and just charging like a set up fee, saying game only cost like 20 bucks to buy at local store.

What sucks about this is my fiance's card got overdrawn paying for both of our FFXI accounts. We are sending the money to the bank account ot refund it, but if SE Refuses to accept the card (even though the funding is in there) we have no way to get a debit or credit card suitable for paying them in at least 60 days (catch 22 situation about getting a new drivers licence in Michigan, and there is no way in the world i can get a bank account here without a licence from MI, due to the idenity theft crisis around here)

Needless to say, I cant get on the game, and if I cant get on the game in 3 months I'm not bothering to come back (sorry I am not digging an extra 100+ dollers out of my pocket to buy new cd keys, its not worth that much to me.

Sadily, I found out about the agreement when I read the manual, AFTER I had already started in. Had I red the entire manual and this bullcrap of a agreement I had to accept to play the game, I probley would never have joined. But I was already in and I might as well make the best of it.

I've had a wonderful time, but it still is omnious to think that if someone had their card canceled on them (like if they lost it) while on say a 3 month bisuness trip, it woudl be very hard to fix this before losing what, two years worth of work? I really do dissagree about SE disposing of CD Keys when POL accounts expire. Its rather cuthroat...

Have you actually tried that? Not WoW at least you still need the CD key that you get when you buy the game. You can't create an account without one.
