  • Changing Server;

    Does SquareEnix broadcast server changes every once in a while or is it something we can do at will. I know for games like Everquest and Everquest2 it costs money to change server and you can do it anytime.

    How does it work for FFXI? ^^

    Re: Changing Server;

    I didn't think you can change server at will. I think you can only decide your server when you're in the process of creating a character. There was that Emmigration, but that was like an event for certain servers. They had posted a notice in POL and POL's official site of the beginning and end of the event. If you want to change server, you have to just create another character in hopes of getting into the server you want. Sorry I couldn't help much.

    Fishy

    There once was fish,

    Whom made a perfect dish

    To a giant fish.

    The giant fish was caught,

    By a Mithra which sought

    To fill her hunger.

    The Mithra was slayed,

    By a monster whom would raid

    The land.

    What have we learned?

      FFXI has done emmagration 3 times from the start of the USA release.

      Once, the introduced one new world, at the start of USA release

      about a year leater, they introduced Hades, and Remora,

      then 6 months later, they let people move to hades or remora, from the same worlds.

        If there is a server immigration you will know. They will have an announcement when you log in, there will be something on the official site about it, and these forums will have it in the news. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that the next immigration could come around the time the 360 version releases.

          You helpd alot actually, to clerify a bit more you CAN NOT move worlds once your char has been created, with the exseption of a world migration.

            Re: Changing Server;

            Yes, the server migrations are know as "World Shifts" you actually have to talk to the in-game npc to register your character for a "World Shift". They are done at SE's will and the server you can Shift to are also choosen by SE.

            Basically if SE makes a "World Shift" they will announce which servers are eligable and what Worlds you have a chance to go to, an NPC to take World Shift requests will appear in the 3 nations. The World you end up going to from the ones they make available are also uncontrollable by you, if you sign up for a World Shift you will get a sort of organized randomness of which server you end up on.

            I say organized randomness because it will take into account factors such as LS members also doing a "World Shift" so that an entire LS can change servers and remain on the same server. The organized part is that they try to balance out the number of players that each server taking on the shifted players receive.

            Risks to be aware of with World Shifts are AH items or money to received from AH for a sale on the old server will not reach you, it becomes lost currency. Delivery Box items are also lost, you only keep what's on your character and in mog house. Linkshell pearls upon World Shifts are converted to new unused pearls to create a new LS with and you being the sackholder.

            Think that covers just about everything with the World Shift, oh except one thing. The NPCs that do the World Shifts are conveniently named "World Shifters" and their gear has many resemblances to the Game Masters gear.

                Re: Changing Server;

                You are aware that the Xbox 360 version of FFXI is basically the exact same, so much so the Xbox 360 players will be coming into the worlds were PS2 and PC already exists now. The extra stuff on the Xbox 360 is all stuff that "Treasure of Aht Urghan" is giving.

                Outside of that the only difference between Xbox 360 and PS2 is just the draw distance and resolution, and resolution is applicable if you have a HDTV that it's going to be working on.

                With that if you are buying the Xbox 360 and FFXI for it, you should be able to use your current account information. Just like you can have 1 POL account and use it on both the PS2 and PC now.

                  yeah, but they added some new servers due to the growth of users due to the COP expansion and European user base.

                    Re: Changing Server;

                    Yeah, that's on going but new server doesn't mean it's going to have stuff you couldn't get on the previous servers. Money wise maybe depending on how the market starts out. As far as areas to explore it'll be the same as what you'd see on other servers, only difference is the people you interact with and the developing communities there.

                      yeah, but im already a PLD75/SMN71/WHM54. I just want to meet new people on a new server with a worldshift. Its the same adventures, but maybe there will be new dynamis linkshells, new hnm groups etc.

                        Re: Changing Server;

                        I've read in some interview about world shifts. The question was about paying some fee for world shifting services. S-E didn't deny it, instead they answered there "some work in progress."
                        Since S-E and SoE are partners now I won't be surprised it SE adopt that idea into their service.

                          I wouldnt mind considering it if it was like a $25 fee and maybe like a 200k gil cost too.

                            Re: Changing Server;

                            Usually they release a new server if there's overcrowding on others, or they forsee an influx of new players. Sometimes they open up world shifts just to balance things out a little bit. I doubt they would open up more than one server for the Xbox 360 release, if any at all.
