I value ease of movement greatly. For actual combat I use keyboard shortcuts for almost everything. Running around, always in hand. For combat itself, it stays on the lap.
Not sure how I would handle being a bard, however.
To TheGrandMom: I wasn't initially aware it was a PS2 periphial. Even Third Party periphials for consoles have much higher standards than for PC. Having never actually used that myself, I won't dispute your endorsement of that particular item. On the whole, however, I still have a poor impression of Logitech's PC gamepad line.
