    Re: Dynamis Newbie.

Then you know what you do if they arent willing to help you understand? Say "Screw you Im finding a shell that is willing to work with those new to Dynamis."

The Dynamis shell I used to help "manage" was a completely new shell. Id say that 95% of teh people were new. We did our research, explained it to the members how everything would be done, and went in. We didnt expect to win the first runs, but we did end up winning our third run to Sandy and our second to Jeuno. If we didnt help everyone understand and there was chaos, it wouldnt go so well.

      Re: Dynamis Newbie.

well everyone has the first time in anything or everything. you dont born up to be a pro in everything. what u need to do is learn asap and do minimum damage.
For the case here, if anyone is doing something like dynamis or hnm or bcnm, they should try not to afk in between the runs which mean while inside dynamis or while fighting hnm or while inside bcnm fight unless is something important like mum screaming or some accident etc then of cos u are excuse since is as important if not more important.
I always try to prepare myself first for things like dynamis, hnm, god, bcnm so i would not have to afk for simple things unless some urgent stuff poped suddenly then of cos u have the reason to go off.
for your case, i think you should have prepare your food before the dynamis start or after as cooking may take like 10mins or more depend on what u cook.
so afking for more then 10mins is really not good ;p
and when your friend got into an accident, you have the reason to go off asap as she/he need your helps more. just need to inform the party inside the dynamis and i am sure nobody should blame you for it.
But there are a lot of times idiots use excuse like urgent things came out and they have to go, ( not saying you are, just that others do that ) so some people may get piss by it. which is the case for your LS and the dynamis LS.
Well you can know if people are doing it on purpose finding excuse to go off etc pretty easily. just monitor the person and does he keep doing things like this? if he do it often, most probably he just making whatever reason he give as an excuse to run away. if not i think people should give anyone a little bit of benefit of doubt. After all, everyone need to work up to prove their worth be it in game or in real life.
To me both real life and in game are almost equally important.
If you cant keep your promise in game, it only show how "good" are you in real life. so my advice is treat in game with some responsibility. that is what most japanese do, so usually they turn up better doing things.
Not saying english speaking people dont but just that some of them spoil trust worthy of the english gamers in ffxi a lot.
So what we can only do is to do our best and people will see it somehow sometimes someways

          Re: Dynamis Newbie.

You did what you needed to do. IRL is more important than in game regardless as to what event you are doing. Yes, the members of that dynamis shell are upset at you currently, but I'm sure you have a few close friends in there. Explain to them what happened. If they are really your friends they will understand. After all, it is just a game. XP lost can be gained just as easily.

I just helped a friend open up a new dynamis linkshell. It's a 'learning' linkshell for a lot of people that have never done dynamis before and want to. There are quite a few dynamis linkshell's on my server, but they are all full and not accepting members. We have now wipped on bastok twice, but we get closer to finishing each time. We just can't get to some of the later on time extenders quick enough.

Don't stress about it. You did the right thing by helping a friend. I would have done the same and not thought twice about the game. Don't stress over it, they will get over the issues they have in time. Just hang in there

It's just my way to not let anyone hang in game. I respect that they are real people with real lives and I do not like to inconvienence them. So out of respect, at the very least, I would hve logged out.

Are you sure? You say that now, when you can think properly, but when you're in a situation where people are crying/upset/in shock you really don't think about little things like "Oh shit, I need to go log out of this vitural world"... Or atleast I don't anyway.

maybe they would have, maybe they wouldn't. the only way of knowing is if it happened to them.

we like to think that we will think level-headed like in every circumstance we are thrown into. some times we just cannot. yes, those are real people and to feel like you just lost the last day xp'ing and such when a pt wipes b/c someone went AFK in an important situation. yes, it hurts. yes, it's annoying... but stuff happens and Vana Diel isnt a perfect world.

because other players are real people tho, I will not hesitate to raise someone or at least shout for a raise for them... I know what it's like to have 5 whms in full AF to just stomp on your body then continue on.

Well lets see, when my daughter called to tell me my grandson was in the hospital I put down the phone, ran to the computer, typed /logout, and then ran back to the phone. I'm absolutely positive that the 30 seconds to a minute of courtesy I took for my ls was appreciated. Like I said before, though the real world > FFXI, I always take into consideration that there are actual people with feelings and lives on the other end of the characters we play. Their time and feelings are important to them, just as my daughters time and feelings are important to her. I respect both equally.

I think you did the right thing. No matter how great FFXI is, at the end of the day it's a game and friends in need come first. It's completely understandable that you didn't think about FFXI and so didn't logout/leave a message and although some people will say they would of done otherwise they can't say that you acted badly because you had your friend's best interests at heart.

                          Re: Dynamis Newbie.

You can afk in dynamis. Most people do at one point or another, stuff happens, it's long fight, but most people do it smartly. Like not afking long, and in an area, not /healing, that is free of monsters.

Usually depending on how long to the boss, you can afk safely behind the alliance because they won't respawn for a long while. But no one going to pick you up if you get lost( dyna-glaciers is lost heaven)

If you're a healer though, or any kind of MP useage, that is important you have to give lots of warning and make sure they are heard, because you're in a critical slot like the only whm in a tank pt, MUST be replaced, or wasting a ballad slot, etc.

In those cases just tell alliance and log out. No one is going to be anal, stuff happens.

But definitelly nono's are auto following(definitely no no), and complain if you die. You're holding the LS down if you come back dead with a bunch of mobs respawn, and ask to be rescued. No alliance is going to turn around wasting time to save your xp for your own stupidity.

Oh yea and mostly no bitching for Raise3. You get what you get. Dynamis is death filled as it is, and time is of the essence. Most LSs genenerally state that unless you're going to delvl raise3 is subjected to the whm's and leaders' decisions.

                            Re: Dynamis Newbie.

just be very careful if you go afk in dynamis. Never ever do it when it is coming close to time that you are going to be removed from the area.

                            Example: Last night we were on dynamis bastok. We have 5 minutes left and DRG AF2 drops. Everyone passes on it and the one drg that needed it lots on it. There were two people AFK. Since they did not pass on the AF, it was lost and the DRG did not get his gear. Needless to say, a lot of people were mad. And just in case you are asking yourself this question, no you can not kick a person from the party to make it go to the person that lotted. Andyone in dynamis whether in the parties or not can lot on the dropped AF. Very sad for that drg. ; ;

If someone lots on the item, and hte other two don't lot, how is it lost?

                                Re: Dynamis Newbie.

when you all zone otu of dynamis at the same time because time expires, anything not already distributed is lost. Kind of like if you do a bcnm, and lot on all your orb drops (this is if you don't have it where it automatically all goes to one person). and everyone zones out of the BCNM drop area before it is distributed, it is all lost as well. It doesn't go to anyone. Unfortunately i had this happen to me in a bcnm before and i lost about a 900k drop off my orb.

No one got the wyrm gear last night, very sad moment for our drg.
