Re: How do you manage school and ffxi

6+shots of Vodka a night can't be good for me.
    Or your wallet

Just play a game that doesnt require your soul to play, like Final Fantasy Tactics >.>

    Ok, nvm, how bout Chrono Trigger? No? Fuck, dont play RPGs if your concerned about the time you waste. Or better yet, play Start Ocean: Till The End Of Time. I'm pretty sure you'll be addicted up until the part of the game where the bad guys shamelessly kick your sorry ass ;.;

Not that hard really. Dont play aon days before tests. Play only 1.5- 2 hrs 2 days before tests. OR you can avoid all of this by only playing on weekends and Fridays. IF your school is anything like mine you willnever be assigned homework on a wednessday. But the chances are that if you are playing FFXI your a good strategist. Apply your skills to real life.

Re: How do you manage school and ffxi

the only person who can answer that question is you, cause only you know how much you need to study etc. to get the grade you want. Personally I do routine homework/practice problems/assigned readings while I play FFXI - time spent seeking PT, waiting for people to gather for events, waiting for next interval on NM pops, etc. For working on a big paper or studying for an upcoming test, I log off and concentrate completely.
Your strategy will depend on you, your classes, and what you're doing in game - it took me a lot of refining and a lot of "OH DEAR GOD THAT's DUE TOMORROW?!?!?!" before I found a system that worked well for me.
              Good Luck! ^.^

Re: How do you manage school and ffxi

Simply put, you can't do both at once, unless you're an absolute genius at schoolwork.

I find that instead of daydreaming about FFXI, to focus only on schoolwork when it's needed and learn it in a way that you really understand it, so it sticks to your mind. (Stay away from the computer and TV physically as far as possible. They are far too distracting--even music can be distracting.) If you really understand it, then you don't have to waste time rushing before tests to re-study, and homework isn't as hard. By concentrating and studying more effectively, it's more time efficient. In essence you're a better student and you have more time to play FFXI.

You need to remember, school is less about how smart you are, and more of a measure of how well you work. It's hard to mess up in school if you have some decent self-discipline. Most students aren't stupid, they're just lazy (me included).

I like to think of school as solving puzzles thrown at you, not just an endless slog of work.

Re: How do you manage school and ffxi

I can barely mange everything going on in my life. I have two jobs, school (with tough classes) and a family to worry about. Still, I manage to play FFXI for at least two hours a day. I just break everything into time blocks. Spend so much time doing this and that. It really sucks because it is the same routine all the time but it is efficient. I make sure that I get my homework done or least mostly before I play but it is tough when there is a lot. Just don't let your responsibilities suffer. FFXI is a game, but your life isn't.
You kill one man, your a murderer
Kill many and your a conquerer
Kill them all... your a God.

I usually don't end up managing all that well. :/
But I try and get my work done first, it just doesn't always work out that way.

Its a nobrainer to me FFXI>school, as long as i dont fail grd 10 im good (doent mean im stupid just lazy)

Ive included how you need diferent classes in a party as an example how being in a group was usefull for an asignment .

Some people study better then others, some people absorb better then others, some people have shorter classes then others.

You can fail school without laying a hand on ffxi, heck i've sene people fail school by doing nothing. As long as you manage your time and classes, it's fine.

Get your schedule right, and assignments in. Whatever school or college you're in, knows what makes the grade(duh). If you got a midterm tomorrow, it's no time to go camp HNMs.

Oh and usually people learn the tricks of the trade @.@. They can BS to you about 100pages reading every clas, but it really only takes 15 pgs of scanning through important stuff, many times.

This varies individually, so try to judge your own state and reactions rather than just following specific advice. I find even that sometimes any music is too distracting, sometimes instrumental music is fine but vocal is distracting, and sometimes silence is more distracting than music.

As for being away from the computer... at times this can be good, at times it can be decidedly impractical. I do most of my work on a computer as it is. (I even learned TeX so that I could type my Calculus homework.) Just try to find a situation that feels conducive. Sometimes that'll be at a computer, sometimes it may be in your room, sometimes you may want to even venture out to a library.

Re: How do you manage school and ffxi

Jee guys, it's not like my opinion is fact or something.

                              I find...
Which entails that this is purely my own way of doing things. Take what advice you can from how I do things, but don't copy me, unless you're like me.

I tend to do everything the hard way. I did almost all my schoolwork by hand. Math I found, I learned much faster when I didn't rely on a calculator. When it's that much harder, you have an incentive to do everything faster, and more efficiently. Consequently, tests were a breeze, and I aced every one except for the final (haha).

For writing, I have no trouble pouring out words, so I type on the computer there just to keep up with my brain, but I do all my research in the kitchen away from the TV and computer, take notes, rearrange data, etc. If I'm on the computer long enough, I tend to look up stuff on the internet and get distracted, check all the news and forums, wasting a couple hours. TV and music with vocals also distract me from reading because I have words read by my eyes while hearing more with my ears at the same time; so I keep away from the background noise if possible.

Surroundings I try to keep as minimal as possible, but at some point you just have to stop fiddling with your MP3 player or whatnot and just work, no matter what the circumstances are.

But whatever, if you don't put some effort into school, you won't do well, and feel really bad about playing FFXI when your grades are low. Also, playing games and such doesn't help you get a decent job. Especially if you've done nothing to fill in your résumé. What will your line of 75's and god gear do for you in life? For the majority of us, it won't pay the bills--or at least not much.

Re: How do you manage school and ffxi

Actually distraction isn't a bad thing.

I believe studies showed that a human mind can only maintain peak concentration emersion for about 15 minutes. After that the mind becomes tired and slowly looses focus whether you want to or not.

The optimimal strat is to work for 15minutes, take 5 min break, and continue. Though loosing your train of thought is bigger priority to pass the 15 limit, but it goes to show that you'll not really doing any better if you cram yourself up.

This is a reason why harder isn't always better, many experts do suggest you take lots of breaks, or you'll run yourself nowhere. Especially studying.

Some people need quiet no distraction rooms to work in, other people all but require backround noise. Don't make empirical ideals based on your own habits. The key here is relaxation, and some people have it different.
