  • updating problems

I have bought FFXI and installed it. I was able to update PLayonline viewer last night ok and then stopped as it was late and I work in morning. Tonight I came back to it and finished registration for POL. I got through it with the odd network error and now it will not connection when checking viewer version. My internet connection works fine, not even slow. I am on cable modem and all works fine except for POL. I can even play other online games without a problem but POL will not make the connection to check viewer version. I have port forwarded all the ports suggested by the support page. Any help would be great.

    The error code is 1160

    Thanks.

              Re: updating problems

And of course they blame it on DDoS attacks now. I starting to wonder if that is in fact true.

I also remember that these problems started when WoW came out....maybe some club of WoW fanboys is doing it to try to convince everyone that WoW is better ( Fanboys, these guys would be hardcore if they exist).

Whoever it is, I'm surprised the DDoSers haven't been cought since appearently SE has federal agents investigating.

                    Re: updating problems

Somewhat frustrating after paying $30 to come back to the game and I can't even get to update viewer let alone play. How often is this happening? I read they were having issues with DDoS recently but I did not realize it was this bad. Hope it gets resolved soon, I am anxious to play

My experience with the problems Verizon users had accessing ffxi awhile ago taught me that not all ISPs go through the same backbones. Verizon goes across the pacific (or did at the time) via California to reach Japan, while others can go across the atlantic.

I contacted customer support. They told me they were aware of the issue (as we already knew) and that they have no ETA at this time for a fix.

                              Re: updating problems

it's not the servers that are down, it's the Play Online patcher program, thingie. If you don't need your computer for anything, just go into your config and set it to never auto-disconnect you and just leave your character logged in. unless you have a flaky internet connection, you'll just always be logged in.
