  • Smartjoy Plus adaptor help please ^^;

    I just bought an adaptor for my computer since I was getting tired of the awkward controls, and I like the PS2 controls much better. I followed the instructions and installed the software, and then plugged it in. I even turned on the gamepad in the FFXI config...but nothing happens. Any button I press does not respond. ; ;

    Can anyone give me an idea what's wrong, and if I can do something to fix it? Thanks in advance^o^v

    Try going into the control panel to calibrate your joypad settings, and make sure you have the latest drivers.

      I might as well ask this here, how different/better/convinient is the ps2 set up on a computer? and is it worth buying a adapter and a ps2 game pad?

        Using the FFXI Gamepad configuration, you can set up any gamepad to play exactly like your PS2 controller. Heck, I'm using a PS2 controller like Tan'o wants to, with the Super Joy Box Pro adapter.

          My family plays the PC version with Logitech Netplay Controllers. I highly recommend them. Comfortable to use and very convienent. Here is a link to the Logitech site. I recommend looking for the best deal online (Ebay has some good ones) or buying used from a local game store.

            I'm using the drivers that came off the setup disk but I'll look around for different ones.

              lol, thanks for the sugestion but it looks kinda aquard expecialy if it does actualy have full sized keys, cause I play on a computer desk and it looks like your supose to play with it on your lap infront of a tv.

              I might as well buy a ps2 controler if i can find a cheap one and see if i like it.

                dumb question, but did you set up all the buttons in the config of FFXI? Start>Programs>Playonline>FFXI>FFXI Config?

                Like I said... dumb question, but It's happened before.

                  Actually the netplay is not bulky or awkward. The keyboard is a compact keyboard similar to a laptop. With a controller your hands are turned in to hold it, with the Netplay your hands are in a more natural position when using the controller. Trust me I have arthritis that acts up if I hold a regular controller too long. With the Netplay I can game much longer with less issues.

                  I sit at a desk and use my Netplay but I'm able to lean back now and play more comfortably without having to juggle a keyboard and a controller. I put my feet up on my subwoofer and lean back and relax. Almost as nice as playing it on my PS2 on the couch!

                    /cheer

                    I got off work a little earlier yesterday and I didn't have to log on for any set events so I roamed around and after following some different instructions I got my adaptor to work. For anyone that had the problems I did, just follow the instructions given here.

                    Thanks for the replies.

                      Not trying to hijack the thread (toooo much) but I'm curious if anyone has used the adaptors for Gamecube controllers and got them working with FFXI. I don't have a PS2, so I could either buy the logictech controler, a PS2 controller+converter, or just a converter for the GCN controller I already have.

                      I'm just curious if the anyone has any positive or negitave feedback from using a gamecube controller.

                        ^if its only $10 for an adapter than i say go for it, and dont worry about hijacking this thread cause i already did it .

                        I think i can trade a burnt game(or $10) for ps2 controler so thats the way im going
