Used to play FFXI, few questions!

Im playing WoW atm but thinking about comming back to FFXI.
But how is FFXI now? Is there more low Lv content?
The new NPC, has ti made us able to solo more now? When i tryed it when the NPC was new i heared it was like 600XP per day then he/she went away with a 20h recast.
