      Re: What makes a noob?!

I wont call out low lvl noobs.... but the other day... no joking. I called a lvl 70 RDM to come out to my PT. Know what he shows up in? BRIGADINE ARMOR! And FISHERMANS GEAR! Holy crap! Plus he didn't do his job at all. So I called him a n00b to his face. He deserved it.

But theres a difference between a lvl 20 person who is a little confused and a lvl 50+ person who has no clue how to do thier job.

And also people shouting "GIMME GILZ PLZ IM POOR!"

To me, my charactor represents me. I wouldnt make myself look like an ass like that on the streets begging for change, so why would I do it in game? I earn all my gil the hard way. So it's the small idiots in the game that ruin it for everyone else. Sorry its like that, but thats how it is.

        Re: What makes a noob?!

yea.. why is it that people who have a lvl 75 job think they the best at every other job.. i partyed with a lvl 75 drk (wasnt 75 in teh prty.) but he was lvlin smner.. and was trying to teach me things about smner.. and i keep correcting him and he keep getting pissed off at me.. and when he tried to do his astral flow with 9mp and it didnt work he freaked out on the party blamin it was our fault saying we pulled hate off his avatar so it failed.. and i told him he was wrong.. that why it failed was he didnt have enought mmp to use searing light in the first place. he was lvl 21 and needed 42 mp. and he told me i was wrong and he would proove me wrong when he loged back on later he would show me he could do it with any amount of mp and was gonna do it with 2.. and i havent herd from him yet -_-

            Re: What makes a noob?!

I just call someone a noob if they make things like this.
            6 days ago, in valkurm:
I was making a party, and we were 5.
I already found a guy, but was lvl 12 war without a sub.
I didn't care, and i invited him anyway.
Once he entered in the party, the japanese girl (obviously) made noticing to the party he has no sub.
But i had no time for searching a tanker with a sub, and kicking him after inviting him would be rude.
            So we started........
Me: Seggs, you are the tanker.
            Seggs: what?
Too late, the puller brought a lizard, and Seggs, after 30 seconds, succeded in drawing the sword and in attacking the monster.
            We won.
Me, the puller and the black mage: Seggs, you know how to voke?
            Seggs: what is voke?
Me and the black mage: provoke is a job ability that you can use by selecting it in the battle menu and using it on an enemy.
            Seggs: i have no provoke.
            Second fight.
He succeded in finding and using mighty strikes, and we won again.
the puller, the black mage, and the white mage: LOL
Me: well, this is a start.
But after the second fight, he started making insane things.
Running after the puller, maybe for helping him. Searching enemies like a puller (and he did it two times).
Me: Seggs, for using provoke you should press ctrl+j and then selecting provoke and using it while you are locking an enemy.
            .... no, he didn't......
After a couple of fights, he pulled another nice goblin, which killed (for what i remember) himself and the whm, or one of the blm.
After this, i had no choice but to kick him.
the puller: did you kicked him?
Me: of course. Why, you want him back?
            the blm: lol
the whm: he were funny though
An hour later, Seggs returned in our camp!
We had a paladin sub warrior tanking, and i was too relaxed for even thinking he could making bastok/valkurm on foot (yes, he didn't even setted homepoint)
and asking me again to join the party.
Seggs: kick him, i was here first
Me: you should tell me you would coming back.
In that day, i saw Seggs dying another 3 or 4 time, and after i checked him, he was lvl 11, meaning...... he deleveled.
            Signature, ah!

                Re: What makes a noob?!

A newb is someone who is new to the game. Often these new people will have many questions like 'What is a SC?' or 'What are some good ways to make gil?' ect. When you answer a newbs question they will openly welcome all positive help and over time learn more about the game. And though they may still have many questions, they'll often be more specific in regards to what is needed, for example 'What spells are best to MB on this SC?' or 'Where is the best place to farm this high priced item?'. Over time a newb will learn from their questions being answered and accept any and all intelligent assistance.

A noob, or n00b, can be any lvl with any amount of play time. Noobs are the lvl 40 Drks with lvl 12 thf subs or the lvl 50 Rdm who has Phalanx but not dispel. They are people who were given good advice, but choose to ignore it for the sake of 'being unique' or gimp themselves of basic equip due to their unwillingness to go make gil. They are the ones who beg for Plvls and free gil, tell other players how to do their job despite never actually playing said job and sucking at the job they are playing and generally being rude, vulger, incompitent and/or lazy.

When someone calls you a noob, it's not because you are new to the game, it's because either they themselves are one or you did something to be considered one. As long as you have up to date spells and equips that allow you to play your role in your party better. Ask questions and accept advice that seems intelligent and try to learn how to play this game correctly no one will call you a noob. In my year and a half playing I never got called a noob to my face, but I try not to say things I don't know for sure while asking and learning about things I know nothing about.

There is no difference in terms between elite, and l33t either, but we use them differently.

How it's used in a cultural, or community context is different.

                    We call newbie, new players.
We call n00bs stupid people who can't play.

                    There's a difference there.

                      Re: What makes a noob?!

True. Noob is a colloquial homonym of Newb, which in turn is a colloqiual derivative of New via newby (or newbie), yet the connotation of Noob (or n00b) portrays a person who has the traits of a Newb yet lacks a valid excuse--such as actually being New (or inexperienced).

I hope this language lesson has taught all you newbs something.

Its the same damn thing. I hate when people try to make things so complex. Like calling an adult a child, while calling a child is not really an insult. And you can 'spell' it as kid, but it means the same thing. L33t does mean Elite. Oh oh oh...

but if I spell Box, like b0x, I am actually speaking about a dinosaur! right..

Alright alright, since you're so stuborn, let's decide this with using the the in-ter-net eh.

                          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noob:

                          Noob, n00b

A noob, n00b, nub, noobo or übern00b is a newbie who claims to know a lot about a subject, but really does not. Also, generally n00bs have a sort of false belief in their own knowledge, and often refuse to acknowledge a differing point of view, especially if it points out fallacies in their claims. They often show off their false skills to gain a reputation. The term is usually meant to be offensive. It was first used in hacker groups on the BBS chat systems in the 1970s. It is important to note that noob and newb are not necessarily interchangeable.

You try to help them, they do not listen and actually try to teach YOU even when they are rank 1 without a subjob or something and saying whatever they know off some guide or something of the sort. I wouldnt mind it so much if they were discussing about the validity of the advice, but when they try to act superior to someone sugguesting them to more efficiently help the party out, it becomes a problem.

                            or

They completely ignore you and keep doing what they are doing -_-;a Some mages do that.

                            or

They dont listen anyway even when it is proven that having a subjob will help you out. Many people at the lower levels refuse to level their subjob and carry it on to Qufim, its so bad at times that some people get annoyed. Also some even refuse to get a subjob(mostly WHMs i feel) despite you trying to convince them to get one because its that useful. However its their choice nonetheless, their reaction however arent that great.

However on the flip side there are people that condemn lower levels just because they are high level to feel superior, even someone tried to condemn me for being level 64(for the damnest long time) and not being 75 and in a HNM LS and saying i know nothing about one(even though i have tried it in a small time HNM LS, not saying i know everything but still the way he said it wasnt warranted).

What i am basically saying that theres bad side of both newbs and higher leveled people, some people's responses might not be completely unjustified because of what people do. However that doesnt excuse them, but it is understandable why some people do. Just remember that although there might be bad high levelers, there is equal if not greater ammounts of newbs that are similar. Take it in stride and dont become one of them, thats all you can do, one less is one more for the enjoyment and good of the entire FFXI community.
