    Re: What makes a noob?!

    How is it complex?

A newb is someone who is new

A noob is someone who is dumb

Everyone was once new to the game but not everyone who was new sucked at it. Conversely many people suck at this game, but not all of them are new players. So why should I use one word to describe them all?

        Re: What makes a noob?!

Ok, well when I use the words newb and n00b, I mean completely different things. Most people seem to agree.

At any rate, words are defined by usage, so it doesn't really matter what you think a word means if the person reading you doesn't think it means that. If you call someone a n00b meaning "new person" when that person thinks it's a deragatory term, you're probably going to insult them and cause a big arguement/misunderstanding.

For example, I used to use the word "jap" instead of "jp" as an abbreviation for japanese people. My generation, imo, is completely removed from the hateful period that makes that word a racial slur when my grandmother says it, so I didn't see the harm since I don't mean it hatefully. I was sternly corrected by people of Japanese descent. There's no point in me insisting that the word has an innocuous meaning despite what I believe if by continuing to use it I'm going to cause misunderstandings and offend people. So now I say "jp."

It's the same thing. Newb and n00b are not just different ways of spelling the same thing any more that jap and jp are.

It is important to note that noob and newb are not necessarily interchangeable.
If you read the whole long section, it would clearly seperate it. Anyway, get beyond the semantics and talk like gamers we are.

In the end it's explicit, a n00b is almost always a bad.

We call those player n00b because of what is set above. They are not newbies, they are n00bs. Sometimes joking, sometimes not.

              Re: What makes a noob?!

Well.. Sometimes saying noob isnt really an insult. I dont usually call someone or anyone a noob. I mean, I was a noob, and in some others eyes, still am. But it's like a nickname and not so much of an insult all the time. But when someone says "You stupid noob" it can mean just as much as "You stupid bastart" Theyre both insulting.. But if someone's shouting "Calling all noobs!" It's not so much of an insult then now is it? It just depends on who's using it and why. I dont take offense to it cause the person calling me a noob used to be one too... Just don't take it too seriously man.. some noobns come in and think they know everything about the game and end up getting people killed making the not so noobish people mad... So just blow it off man.

                    Re: What makes a noob?!

There's a reason these haven't been added to the dictionary yet. People haven't fully developed distinct differences in meaning. As usage has evolved, newb and noob have taken on separate applications. generally speaking newb is more objective--factual--where noob is more subjective--opinionated or creating a metaphor comparing to newb. This is often a generally accepted interpretation; however, both are still highly context sensetive and subject to disagreements. In short, it means that as long as your somewhere close to the general consensus, you are right.

LEEEEROOOOY!!!! j/k.. It was still funny man.. I;m pretty sure every game has it's own Leroy.

I think with people helping noobs, they'd better understand the game. So instead of putting noobs down, help them so they may not ask stupid questions.. Like "how do I move?" Or "Where's the fishing guild." When they're standing right infront of it.. *This in no way relates to me*

                        Re: What makes a noob?!

                        A Square is a rectangle
But A rectangle is not a square

Please before people sprout more about "it's not bad"...well it is.

Did anyone even read the 1st and last line of the defination, in wiki

A noob, n00b, nub, noobo or übern00b is a newbie who claims to know a lot about a subject, but really does not.
It is important to note that noob and newb are not necessarily interchangeable.
It is made clear that it's always condescending or bad. A newbie is just new, a n00b is someone who portrays falseness, a hypocrite, an idiot, etc.

Perhaps some people may not have known the difference(most of us usually do), but arguing that the meaning has change, is false.

If you're not catching on to the joke is one thing, but don't make the claim that the joke isn't really a joke because well....you're beeing a n00b-> "who claims to know a lot about a subject, but really does not. "
