anyone else notice that suddenly mages are all over the place and melees are on the dramatic decrease? I mean... in Valkurm Dunes the mages lfg is longer than the melees... weirdness.

    Depend on server...

On my server, there is a sudden rise of MNK, when I seek or form party as MNK, I can do /sea anytime and see 5 or 6 MNK... and just enough mages to make a party.

      Re: Sudden Mage growth

When I started my whm a few months back, there were so many out there that getting a pt was a pain. I think it goes in cycles. A while back there was so much complaining on forums about seeking as a melee that many new and old players went to a mage job. Now you see people saying "If you want to lvl fast pick whm/blm/rdm." on the forums and people just starting are doing that. But it is server dependant. I know several times when forming a pt we had a shortage of melee on my server.

Hmm, on bahamut it's still pretty balanced, though we did have a mage rush not too long ago. It doesn't seem so bad at first until you get to a 5 mage PT and then try to deal with the mp-regen downtime. The current difference is a lot of rangers switched to sam, drk, or war, driving up the cost of certain equips by 50-80% in the past month, though the number of DDs is still about the same overall.

There is an overabundance of monks from 60-75, but that's always been there. Similarly, drg is popular at lower levels, but not many past lvl 60... of those, more are lfg than in other DD jobs... -.-

The chronic tank/rdm/bard shortage in the 40-70s still hasn't gone away, despite rdms making up a huge amount of the population at any given time. Lots of brds endgame, few at mid-game. The ninja craze went away awhile ago. Some more plds are poping up, it's not always enough.

I see a lot more veteran players leveling up than new players now. Pretty easy to tell from the equipment they wear.

Hmm, there's hardly any mages in the level 50-60 range on Midgardsormr it seems. Just a few Summoners and the occasional White Mage (never any Black Mages, and hardly any Red Mages or Bards).

          I have been starting my own parties since around 45 as a PLD, with a MNK friend. We've been doing pretty well, but sometimes we have to wait hours just for a RDM or BRD to pop up. ; ;

You also have to take into account what time you're looking in.

JP times tend to have more mages, and NA times tend to have more melees.

JPs tend to like nin more and NAs tend to go to Paladin.

Just casual observances. Nothing set in stone.

Also since JPs don't really party unless it's a 2hr+, they're not in the NA model of I'll pt 30 minutes and find a replacement, They will disappear unproportionally if you hit one of the times( I.E dinner, sleep, etc)

Excuse me, I was just in a JP party that lasted a mere 1 and a half hours before they all got sleepy and left - and it's happened a fair few times before, despite the fast experience points.

Also, I usualy play in JP times, and it is still the same as when I managed to play in NA times - so I don't know where you got that information from. O.o; I also manage to party when I have 3+ hours available as I don't really get much leveling done in 2 hours.

                  Re: Sudden Mage growth

There is a LOT of mages in Valkurm nowadays. Yesterday I was starting a party with a friend, on my summoner, and we couldn't find a warrior or paladin anywhere- there were, however, FIVE white mages seeking.

Yeah I agree that on Midgard there seems to be a shortage on mages in the 60s (most notably RDMs). Plenty of melees though! Last night had a party like this: NIN, WAR, MNK, DRK, SMN, WHM. I thought it was going to go poorly but we ended up doing very well. Oh we went to Bibiki Bay btw and were chaining Gobs, think we even hit Chain #5 once or twice (not bad w/o refresh). It sure beat standing around in Jeuno seeking party for hours. ^^b

                      Re: Sudden Mage growth

The melee:mage ratio on bahamut is basically the same for NA or JP times. The only real difference between JP and NA is that NAs seem more prone to exclude certain jobs, e.g. drg/sam/mnk, while JPs have a... 'whatever we have is what we'll work with' attitude. However, they are hesitant to invite NA melees, sometimes mages for the most part.

About a year ago there was a big difference between the job ratios and spreads for NA vs. JP, but now it seems to have settled down. At least on my server.
