Re: So yeh my friend decided to buy gil...

You also have to wonder how much a buyer would actually pay for gil before he feels its a waste. I dont think anyone that buys gil think they are necessarily spending their hard earned cash on gil is something reletively useful, so while it might be true that they overbid i hardly doubt that they just overbid as some people are more or less rich than others. I just feel that not everyone that is a gilbuyer would probably overbid. I personally if i wanted that Brid +1 bad enough i would buy it even if it is a little overpriced sometimes, because you never know if its gonna shoot up again..=/

And who in their right mind will jump to 20mil..? Or put it that high and risk losing gil..? >_> anyway gtg

Re: So yeh my friend decided to buy gil...

Most of the time bought gil is only applied to the rarer, more expensive items. For common items, just some farming/crafting here and there works.

So inflation is only occuring in the higher end items which were pricey to begin with--and now even more so.

Gillsellers hurt the economy by partially removing the gil flow between poor and rich. Instead of poor players camping a NM and then selling to richer players (equalizing the economy), It goes to a third party, the gillsellers, instead of being redistributed. You also have rich people selling to each other, which restricts the trickle down cash flow.

Inflation doesn't matter if gil is still spread equally all around, but in FFXI's case, it's not. For the poor players, they are getting poorer, the rich (epsecially high level crafters) are getting richer. Almost all the significant gil keeps re-circulating around the top end of the economy. It's great if you can provide luxury goods, but for the majority of players who don't have access to this 'high roller' play, the game's economy sucks.

Even myself as a high level fisher, I am getting squeezed pretty tight. There is no such thing as HQ fish. My bread and butter gil making tool is squid; while it has gone up slightly in price ~10% in the past 6 months, it's still not nearly matching the rapid increase price of many equips that I want. In essence I am getting poorer every day from high end item inflation.

Thus it is really a waste to farm gil if you have the ability to get a real job and want to be technical. The way gil sellers gain gil is still wrong, but it can not be called wasteful.
er.. well, yes but i for one have better things to spend money on than fake currency

well i made him buy me new gear lol

            Double Post Edited:
anyways, i didnt know this topic would spread so far >.>' But my opinion on gil selling is that if gilsellers want to waste thier life 24/7 to farm NM, BCNM,etc, so let them. You can easily sell your gil if you wanted it. It's not the gilsellers fault, it's the people buying it. They didnt say 'buy my gil now or die', people chose to buy it. But to me, i think buying gil ruins the whole purpose of the game. You have to work hard to earn your stuff in FFXI and buying gil just ruines that. And I don;t think buying something for more than the game is monthly is worth it.

Whether buying gil is worth it or not is up to the person buying it, but yeah i agree, if people are going to buy it why wouldnt some people farm gil to sell?

It's not free, you're still spending your time to farm the gil. Time you could spend doing something else (like working for real money).

OR...you can play when your off work (like most do, go figure!) And then when you go to work, do your shit and get your money...you take that money to the store and buy earthly goods...you know real stuff...

There is no way you can justify buying gil...only complete retards do it...The gil is right in front of you, why pay real money for it?

If you are going to put it that way then theres no reason to justify spending the time to farm gil as well or paying the monthly fee or even buying the game since they are all fake. Read Rones post on the first page that explains why people do what they do and since when do people have to agree with you to not be retarded? Its their choice whether anyone likes it or not and if its worth it to them its not up to you to say it isnt.

Ok,buying gil is bad but you don't see Square-Enix banning people that buys gil from gil sellers.

Buying gil is like putting your real money in an ashtray and lighting it on fire. If your retarded enough to do that, then by all means go buy gil.

Again not everyone has to follow your standard, i wouldnt buy gil but i really wouldnt condemn others as retards for doing so as long as they really are comfortable with their decision. Although alot of them that do buy gil are retards...frankly if they buy it its none of my buisness.

Something that Square-Enix could do to angry gil sellers is to reset the AH price or make more items EX/Rare.Making low level players gain more gil than usual could be a thing that would piss off gil sellers and ruined their business.
