As long as you can play FFXI on the PS2 we're all going to be screwed in terms of performance. The game is only as strong as the weakest processor.

I upgraded my pc's vid card from a 5600 to a 6600 GT and noticed a major increase in the draw distance. Like I could actually see the MH from across the bridge in Windurst Walls. Future video cards may even have further draw distances.

It could just be a matter of upgrading our pc's to match or surpass the 360 and ps3. It may not be soon, but maybe 6 months to a year after they are released.

Hopefully SE will actually put out better driver support for the newer cards, such as SLI ( though I HIGHLY doubt that would ever happen ) and higher pixel shaders and/or versions of DirectX.

They'll likely release another Compatible Graphics Card Driver Updates some point in the future addressing SLI support considering they're in bed with Nvidia (or were at least). I highly doubt they'll do anything with Direct X since ffxi is a Direct X 8 game. That would require registry changes as well as game engine changes. Can you imagine the amount of calls tech support would get if they made such a download available?

An alternative would be another expansion that we'd have to buy and that would update stuff. It's possible. Just not very likely.

Besides the amount of stuff they were able to do in CoP with this engine under Dx8 was very impressive.

they would never get rid of ps2 version of its played in jp mostly on ps2 plus the ones in usa they would lose to much money

I don't know about this. In Japan, they are all about having the best tech. When the PS3 comes out there will be many of the old PS2 users buying one. Granted SE has not said a thing about a PS3 release for FFXI but they could just be waiting to see what Sony does with the hd. (Last I heard it would not be available release day.)

The PS3 is going to be a lot more powerful system then the PS2 is now. Also even when the PC are released with the same powerful processors and such the PS3 is dedicated to a specific function unlike a Computer. Which means it's processing abilities can greatly be tuned to gaming or just general entertainment which will basically make the PS3 and the to be released Computer consoles fairly equal in power. Some even debate that since the PS3 will be so much more focused then a PC in what it does that it'll be able to dedicate more of it's processing to that function or purpose which will then make the PS3 more powerful then the next generation PCs (When it comes to gaming).
