    I don't see any pictures that show off the incresed draw distance. I think that's one of the features I'm looking forward to the most since I'm tired out mountain popping and such. It's good to see the graphics really havn't changed much.

      Yeah, I was thinking pretty much the same thing. There doesn't seem to be any sort of improvement from PC screenshots I've seen. Oh well

        Looks nice but doesn't look any better than PC version running at high resolution. The increased draw distance will be nice though won't make a huge difference I don't think.

            Yeah, HD Television is a little better then what you get as a basic standard for High Resolution with the computer and monitor. The general standard that I new was usually around 1026 x 768, the HDTVs get around 1366 x 768. Means a lot more side view with the same amount horizontal as the monitor (or called Vertical Scan Lines).

            Regular TV if you didn't know is like 720 x 480 resolution (4:3) or something like that.

              Glad I got a HDTV cpl months back then.
              And, yes, the increased draw distance is what I'm really looking forward to as well.
              wonder though, does this mean stuff will be targetable farther out, or just visible?

                I run widescreen FFXI (1280x768, 16:9) on PC... just a couple adjustments to the windower setting and viola...

                    Yeah, but the HDTV still has 86 more lines over that adjustment. Not that big a difference, but still 86 more lines

                      I thought of something. The pic above from the 360...I think its safe to say we're all viewing it on a computer monitor. So, if it were better than a pc's capabilities, how would we know? Its like watching a commercial on tv for an hdtv. On a non-hdtv, the picture on the tv on the commercial will only look as good as your tv can show. So ppl making the commercial will make everything around it look slightly more grainy to make it look better by comparison. Seem like it would follow the same logic here.

                        Apparently you've never seen a video or seen a picure of high quality CG on a computer, then.

                            No.

                            The question was asked during an interview that I'm too lazy to find now. Visually they wanted the XBox to be the most impressive with incredible draw distance, though MOBs will appear the same as an interation of the game, negating any unfair advantage a 360 player would have.

                              It depends on the TV and the computer monitor you're comparing it to. Some are good some are bad. Some can go the full 24-bit spectrum of 16.7 mil, others (like some LCDs) much less. Color modification from processing like adobe gamma, colormatch, or a tv's own software adds futher modification. Also, the type of i/o used, be it digital, s-video, component, or god forbid... composite, makes a large difference.

                              Really though, the difference in quality between monitor and HDTV is normally in favor of the monitor. In terms of resolution, both are similar. Watching HDTV on a TV is only different because it’s bigger, not really better in quality. It’s more immersive--ok, maybe that is more quality, in a different way. (BTW, 1080p is ~7% more resolution than a 1280x768 setup. I don't think most of us can tell.)

                              My monitor might not be 50", but if I had no trouble hooking up my PC to my home theatre system, I'd have a 92" screen (1080i HD DLP projector on a drop down screen) and a ridiculously good sound system all the time.

                              As it stands, I have other people in house so my 19" LCD monitor and headphones have to suffice for the majority of my gaming. It’s the best compromise I can come up with, short of putting in a large screen TV in my room, which I really don’t have room for. (BTW widescreen helps a lot when you're a puller.) Full internet access and a play list of mp3s is also handy when lfg. :3

                              The pic on the internet is also a compressed jpeg. Yuck. First thing I noticed was that the textures used are the same resolution as the PC version, so the higher (slightly) rez of 1080p HD would have little benefit other than less noticeable aliasing on 3D edges. Then again, we’re not sure if FFXI will be running 1080p, or something lower. Lighting effects also seem no different from the PC version.

                              It seems like the only advantage to FFXI on 360 is that it’s cheaper than building a computer that can run at the same specs, and the longer draw distance (which I think can be hacked on PC). Otherwise I could just hook up my PC to a TV for the same effect.

                              Sound quality is also an unknown. IMO, FFXI sound is pretty mediocre, with a heavy midi-ish feel, with unsatisfying 3d positioning and effects. So I don’t think FFXI can take advantage of a good surround sound system, beyond the better sound reproduction in comparison to normal PC sound systems. <call2> would probably make my head explode on a cranked up surround sound system. x_x
