Pity Draven all you want, it is the truth for the most part. Thats not to say everything is like that but its definetly true. People screw each other over alot of the times. I absolutely agree with him that most people would do such a thing. Close people is the only real people that probably wont, thats not to say everyone out there would do it, but it holds true.

We put ethics in actions, the actions in themselves have no ethics and nor do they need to follow them. Doesnt mean i be a jerk to people though.

Its not really an attitude as much as how i view the world. Everything has something attached to it that we put a value to, take it out and its just what it is. That doesnt mean i am a jerk as i stated, its true that being fair will only screw yourself over, but theres a difference in being a fair and nice guy like what Draven described, and being not able to defend oneself when being pushed around. In fact it is knowing that there are things like this, that we can avoid those bad things happening to us, and know not to do them to others and protecting ourselves at the same time.

Its not negative, i am just looking at things a face value and seeing how it applies to me. So far i have to say i agree with Draven for the most part. I dont feel its negative, just looking at it plain what it is. You are free to disagree of course thats fine. Doesnt mean i have to be negative about it, i just see it as a tendency and i dont hold that to everyone out there, but just be aware that it could and careful of things. View it as you wish.

Its not like everyone is going to screw me over( i dont go to some guy and automatically assume that without reason) , but at the same time just dont be caught unawares too.

If you meet a new person and your first feelings are towards this person that they could hurt me/cheat me/lie to me etc., then that is a negative attitude. When we exude a negative attitude, people can perceive this and react in kind. We set them up to fail because they have nothing positive to build on. That is why a negative outlook only receives negative results. Then in turn, this perpetuates the standpoint of the originator because their statement becomes true. The only way to change this reflection is to change your perception of people. The problem is some people can not open themselves to the disappointment/hurt that this may cause because of past baggage that they carry in their life, whether they are conscious of it or not.

Let me simply add that only a judgmental and usually bitter person makes distinctions such as GrandMom has. I need no pity, but thank you nonetheless.

The world is the sum of all our dispositions. If it is mostly evil or unethical it must be so, only as a result of whose attitude or disposition is represented most. I further state that our view of "The World" is at best, a magnification of what we see within ourselves.

Amorality doesn't make "The World" evil or heavenly. Don't confuse an absence of morals or ethics with a willful desire to make others suffer.

I don't know about GrandMom, but my life experience has been one of highs and lows. One of the biggest reasons I Role Play is to check reality at the door fellas. Who wants to be some uptight-stick-in-the-mud-my-mommy-told-me-not-to player who follows all of LIFES rules in the digital MMO world. Your role-playing for a reason. My goal is to do in the game world what I "Shouldn't" do in the real world. The only reason you might take offense to people like me is because you no longer distinguish a difference between the two.

No you would be the judgemental bitter person with your outlook. I have an open and honest outlook on life. I trust and care until someone gives me a reason not to.

LOL I can not distinguish between the two? Your the one that fantasy plays. I play to relax. I also balance a home, charity work, a family, babysitting my grandson, etc. I think I live in more of the real world than most people. Maybe if you didn't retreat into a fantasy and interact more with real people your outlook would improve.

Trying to say that being an a-hole in a game because your "role playing" is ok is asinine. If your doing it with other people that are involved in your role playing, cool go nuts. But if you just feel that playing this game is role playing for everyone because it is for you, then you are sorely mistaken. Running into someone that acts like an a-hole in game because they can't/won't in real life is a royal pain in the ass for most people. We don't want to be involved with your fantasy and would rather you go play another game.

It's quite obvious you can't follow your own advice, so why should others?

Usually, a person's true heart is revealed when the threat of getting their ass kicked is taken away. (i.e. internet). It seems to be that when you are nolonger faced with any real or immediate consequences of your actions. "I can be a bully and an a-hole on the internet b/c noone can find me and kick my ass for it." Sadly, threat of physical harm keeps a lot of ppl in check. And like I said, when that threat is removed a lot of ppl tend to become truer forms of what they want. (in a bad way)

Very true Caspian, unfortunately. I don't advocate violence but if they know you can find them, then they do tend to "behave" more.

I look at it like this. Playing a MMO is like interacting with someone on the phone. Your both connected and can interact with one another. But I don't think Mr. Draven would call up people and act like an a-hole swearing or threatening them. It's nearly the same thing because there is a real live person on the other end of both and you can interact with people all over the world with both. So to say that I can be an a-hole in game disregards the fact that a real person is on the other end of your idiocy. How you treat them affects their real life and having someone say that they don't care just makes me want to puke.

For Draven, being an asshole is not his intention, it's a side effect of his methods. Like some strong type A people, they will go after their goal in the most efficient manner. Backstabbing, shoving, playing underhanded etc, is seen as a strength--some people are so wimpy, they just conceed to others so they don't have to feel bad.

Now he doesn't do this all the time, he realizes that pissing off too many people works against him in the long run. You still need to build some connections and relations because you can't do all the work yourself. Other people are a strength if you can get them to work for you. Not too difficult either, since many people will rally around the common idea of greed--or even the mere suggestion that you can sate their appetite.

It's basically the natural order of the world, to seek the most efficient path. This natural order is very prevalent in the business world, where real money and lives are at stake. Needless to say, it's also prevalent in nature as well.

Personally, I don't take this game so seriously. Aside from not having the time to be online so much, the amount of work needed to get some virtual items doesn't make me feel happy. Then again, I help run a small business so I know how cuthroat and unforgiving the real world is. I don't want to bring it with me into FFXI.

As for ethics, they only exist to establish low-cost relationships. Money alone isn't always enough. They all differ from culture to culture--so saying something is unethical may only be true for yourself.
