WoW... Better than FFXI?

Is WoW better than FFXI? Some stuff is starting to make me second guess whether I should purchase FFXI or not.... such as little things like there not being any movement for some emotes. =\

wow -- That comment alone makes me think you should just go play WoW ... Seriously, if a couple of /emotes is all thats keeping you from getting one of the greatest (imo) MMORPG's on the market, then be my guest ... if not, read alittle more into FFXI before you decide... You actually have stuff to do when you reach ingame ... Woah, WoW is getting a new patch for endgame soon; FFXI still have 2 handfuls of other jobs to lvl, quests, Missions and much more to do... I'm a FFXI fanboy, sure -.- but with good reason

Yes, in FFXI there's always goals to set. Leveled to 75? Well complete your missions. Completed those? Zilart missions are waiting. Done those? Promathia missions are still there. There's always another job to level that offers a different experience, there's always a quest somewhere that helps you dive further into Vanadiel.

In WoW everything is laid out for you, all too easy. Once you max your character in a few days, you'll realize how terribly repetative the instances and battlegrounds are. You'd think PvP never gets boring, but in WoW it does and somehow very quickly. They don't have a simple deathmatch, there's always some other goal you have to complete that gets in the way of killing. Class imbalances only make it worse.

Two completely different games.
Just because this is a FF forum doesn't mean I'm gonna tell you FF is better.
Play what you want but seriously if you can't make up your mind because of a few lack of emote motions then go pay your money for WoW and get to lv cap in 3 days and have the best EQ in 3 more days and then you can emote all day.
People say this game comsumes too much time and requires too much but don't we pay for that?
Let's hope you don't have to chose your game depending on emotes.
For that, you do the motion in RL.

Impactioned summed up pretty much exactly how I feel. I've tried WoW some time ago (after having played FFXI for about 2 years), and I found it fun to begin with. But after that first week, you pretty much realize that you're going to be doing the same things over and over. There are no grand goals, other than getting better gear, which, in my opinion, never really helped much more than the "worse" gear. Small notices, but, as an Orc Warrior in WoW, I found bigger changes occured in my effectiveness through changing my spec, which in WoW is like setting your abilities, that you get full access to at all times once obtaining max lvl cap (again, that happens fairly quick). But enough with the run-on sentences and trailing thoughts I've got a friend who will be quitting WoW after his month of subscription to WoW ends simply because, as he states, "There's nothing more to do." I just hope, that if you do decide to play WoW instead, that you won't end up the same, as many have in my experiences.

Just a side-note, however:
I have yet to meet a person who didn't agree that FFXI's animations, graphics, and effects were far cooling looking, and more enjoyable to watch, than WoW's is (if you can even claim WoW has animations and effects...lol!). So yeah, the motions that go along with all the emotes in WoW are useless if they're dull (only cool one is /dance in my humble opinion) :D

Another side-note (lol! I keep coming back to add more): WoW servers, to put it simply, are shit. WoW players will agree as well. Entire server lag (not individual lag) is quite common in major cities (ie, all NPCs will sudenly disappear for everybody within the city), as well as server crashes. Also, the class imbalances are QUITE noticable (Paladins are said to have an "I win" button...lol they actually call it that).

FFXI can be alittle harder then WoW but it just makes when you get the higher stuff more rewarding i think. Emotes are no reason to pick a game, and the ones that dont make you move are like /smile and stuff lol

FFXI is like building a steady relationship with a girlfriend... it takes time and devotion, and it turns out to be really awesome later on.

WoW is like a hooker, instant gratifcation, and then a few minutes later you are disgusted with her and kick her ass out of the car. Then, they go and spend the money on crack (What I think the WoW dev team is doing with the monthly fees).

The WoW servers and endgame are shit.

or you can ask your local minister about it. If he says WoW, then you shoot and kill him. Eat his corpse to make you more powerful. Then, play FFXI.

I'll try not to get involved in this discussion as I hold my own opinions.

FFXI is for one type of gamer...

WoW is for another type of gamer...

Both FFXI and WoW have different, but equally as great flaws in their design.

I'm sorry, but we've had this discussion way too many times.

No one can tell you which game to choose, you'll have to leave that up to yourself. Try searching around the forums and any WoW forums and learn more about each game before making your decision.
