Why doesn't FFXI win any awards? It's like SE has decided to keep FFXI out of the whole scene. They aren't ever mentioned in Game Pro or other gaming magazines even though they mention WoW ever other article. I don't think they were reviewed by Xplay, and if they were it was probably some cookie cutter lame review like they do with so many other games.

How did World of Warcraft win an visual arts award at Walk of Game? How was Halo honored with a piece, but Final Fantasy wasn't?

Does this really deserve a viusal arts award?

Come on, the sun isn't even past the horizon, so why is the sky colored as if it was?

    Let's take this into consideration:

This is every sunset in the game, every time. Not to mention countless other painting-esque areas and settings. I just don't understand why FFXI doesn't get the attention it deserves.

If WoW has one problem, it's the looks. FFXI does an amazing job on scenery if you have the computer power for it. Even nearing on 2 years of play and the sunsets/sunrises with different weather patterns still amaze me.

I'm with you... but, WoW has way more players than FFXI. And it is currently the most popular MMORPG. Thats the way it will be... sorry.

well I don't think S-E really cares to advertise their game that much ^^ FFXI did get some award back on it's first year of NA release but you can't just give the same reward to the same game over and over every year you know.

By the way I think the WoW fever has ceased already, I don't think I see that many articles about it anymore. About it's graphic, it has it's style. And highly subjective, just like arts

The reason why this game isnt talked about and given awards this year is because its not NEW. WoW came out recently...whereas FFXI has been out for awhile now almost 2 years in NA. You can't review a game thats 2 years old or put it up for any awards. It has nothing to do with popularity but more with release date. This doubles for all award shows, you never see a 2 year old movie put up for an academy award even if it is the best movie of all time.

FFXI won plenty of awards when it came out here, even one for best persistant online world (Vana'diel), so I would say that contributes to some of what you're saying. Vana'diel is, in my opinion, the most beautiful game world ever conceived.

Yeah FFXI has like 10 or awards going back to 2002, upto April 6th 2004 of awards its won. I also agree FFXI's graphics are just amazing, and the CoP just goes even further beyond that still.

I believe the original Halo was awarded, and so was Mario. How old are those?

The more and more I think about it the more and more I suspect this is a biased industry. If you aren't paying people to talk about you're game nobody is going to talk about your game. Not to mention the odd idea people seem to have that popularity is quality. Not as many people play WoW as you think because Blizzard doesn't use "real" numbers. They boast their unique user count, which is basically how many people have installed and created a character. It doesn't include anything about repeat players, just the fact that this many people have tried their game.

It's all about the hype. Xplay gives over hyped games a 5 out of 5. Unfortunately that's all those games were, hype.
