Re: Bringing Role-Playing Back to FFXI

well guys... stop stating the useless point that FFXI is not made for RP please.

I have to agree with fastcast. There are people that enjoys roleplaying. And roleplaying is not fun to do alone. You need friends, you need at least a group of people that also roleplays to truely enjoy it. Which is the whole point of this thread. Xho is just looking players who likes what he likes and inviting them to play with him. He's not trying to force roleplaying upon anyone and there's absolutely no point whatsoever for you guys who don't care to roleplaying coming in here and telling him why you don't.

About roleplaying creating hostile environment.... my god can't you differentiate roleplaying from griefing? That's why roleplayers what to hang out together. because they know they can be enemies in their role, but IRL are real friends.

Let's say I'm a taru. If I roleplay that I hate elvaan, we'll just do that in conversations among RPers, not with any random elvaan I happen to see. Which of course a roleplaying elvaan will also enjoy seeing a Taru who talks like a taru. Imagine yourself talking to NPC taru, they have such unique characteristic in their accent and that's more than enough to create this environment RPer are looking for.

We don't have to go ahead and MPK elvaans to roleplay this role. You see what I mean?

This whole thing is about finding the right people to hang around with. If you don't care to do so, shut up and stop argueing these pointless "waaa you can't, no no no" please.

But the lack of Female Elvaans ( whom are actually busty, attractive females in the real world ) doesn't make the roleplaying experience enjoyable.

        That's right. Elvaans. Not Mithra.

Re: Bringing Role-Playing Back to FFXI

I tried RP when I first started the game but FFXI didn't suit my RP ideals, so I gave up on it. I just go back to Ultima Online when I have the sudden urge to RP on a MMO. However, if I meet another RPer in-game, I have no problem catering to his needs.

I am the co-leader of an RP LS, saying its hard or impossible to RP is just, well silly, really though >WHAT< actaully makes this a difficult task? Please tell me, because my LS has never ran into real difficulty when it comes to an RP session.

If we are in a crowded place I will say RP over LS, whereas if we went to somwhere less crowded like non-town zones, or places like Selbina, Mhaura Tavnazian Safehold and so on we will RP in chat or whatever. Best RP I have had was in Promyvion, that place is great for RPing.

In my opinion though, you nay-sayers haven't a clue what your talking about. You can RP in this game aslong as you know others who want to, tell me what in the world will stop somone RPing with another RPer? And don't say parties etc, because most RPers know when and when not to RP.

Xhaztol, good luck building an LS or whatever your plans may be, once you have a good selections of members it can be great fun. And a small peice of advice, you dont need to listen to it or anything, I just want to point out incase you or members you might have find difficulty is to do practice RP sessions etc, so you can allow for slip ups but the sessions not going to apply to their characters story. I don't know entirely about this, this is just from personal experience, you free to do as you wish, but I suggest trying to refrain from talking like your in medieval times, FFXI didnt have that stage in history so wouldn't have that "brand" of vocabulary. In my LS most of the members talk like anyone else, because FFXI story characters etc use modern speech. Anyone who talks in an odd manner normally gives a reason for it, (noble, distand land etc).

Yeah. Exactly what we do, too. I think the most I slip into older speech is saying the word Aye, which isn't really old anyway. And even so, it's just an affirmative. Anyway, thanks a lot for the support, Seldzar. And for the suggestions. It's posts like that that I was looking for, not the negative ones listed before.

I rp in pts to liven up the situation, but otherwise i'm an uncommited RPer

ahh, lights are on but nobody's home.

maybe i'm just not commited b/c the group i tried to RP with once seemed to expect the game mechanics to revolve around the RP and expected me to /emote and /say stuff during combat. I can't WS, BP, cast, use macros while i have stuff i'm typing. it doesn't sound like you expect that either. had you asked this and I was visiting this site a month or so ago, but almost all my cuttings have yielded 2x saplings... i'm pretty busy and have a substantial Gil investment plus, i'm fairly active w/ 2 LSes now too. not to mention done G2 and doing AF.

even if a SE maintenence kills all my plants because I cannot log on and I loose them all. well it would have been the same for your server too. wish you the best of luck. ^.^

Iwish you the greatest of luck with this Bud^^. To this day, though I don't actually have an RP ls, I still do it with my normal ls...they think its funny, and if anything they like me all the more for it. My friends on the game never question me when I say that I like certain npcs over others, as if I know them personally.(which in Windy i do) I find that one of the best ways to stick to RP is through speaking the dialect of my country.

Anywho, just some words for ya...wish you luck in gathering your RPers. And I know, you know that it is in no way impossible to RP in the game. After all the game is only what you make of it^,~

Good luck to you, Xhaz. I'm going into trial period along with a friend pretty soon here, and meeting up with another friend who already plays, so we'll at least be RPing with each other, whether or not we can find a larger group to interact with. Kumei will definitely be on Midgardsormr, though, but I might see about getting Emie onto Remora. (Taru-F4A WHM)

On the topic of FFXI storywise, I'm wondering if anyone could talk to me about their impressions/opinions on the culture in Bastok, particularly as concerns races other than Hume and Galka living there, and perhaps on what they've observed or speculated about moogles and their role in Vana'diel. I'm trying to tighten up some details on Kumei's background (including adoptive parent) to help explain the situation she's in now. I haven't seen too much yet outside of what's in the FFXI manual and the wiki, so what I know is mostly that the economy relies on mining and engineering, and living conditions are rather less than stellar, perhaps moreso for Galka than Humes.

I would love to RP with a group of dedicated people, especially if we could get a nice mix of races. Alas I probably wouldn't have enough time to effectivly play one. This actually reminds be of LotR The thrid age (I think) where there was a story about a group of characters following right behind the main characters. The RP LS wouldn't be main characters but would affect the story non the less (at least according to your stroy). Good luck on your RP party!
