That makes it even easier, because they don't have to wait for you to type it, just strip the data that's already there.
Have you searched for this file? I tried once, and I couldn't find it. It isn't hidden in the Registry as far as I can tell, and I searched in general locations for it in a file. They've got it really hidden somewhere, and the only way they could access your files is if they sneak another program onto your computer. You can tell when some one is accessing your computer by the shared resources.

Hacking accounts is impossible unless you have the info. It's simple enough not getting stuck with a keylogger. Just know who you're downloading from, or find the software from its official site.

I'm sure though that SE is better at securing their passwords then Microsoft is with their stupid hash encoding within a Mime encoding or whatever it was, they seemed to think that they wouldn't have to use salts then in the hash encoding.

Still though a password saved on your system is even easier prey to attack then from a key logger. Keyloggers how well they can work depends very strickly on the skill of the programmer, some keyloggers will get thrown off if you have a notepad file with the password and you highlight and paste using your mouse and Ctrl+V. Other keyloggers are memreaders are smarter to read the data itself being sent to the system clipboard or to that particular section in the memory.

Just because you think (and may have) outsmarted some hacker programs there's many others with different methods that you didn't outsmart. The most prudent course of action is to do the best to avoid ever getting hacked by being more cautious of the programs you download and use.

      Double Post Edited:
The call Windows XP the Zombie Windows for a reason. Windows was dumb enough to put in open source sockets, if you don't know how to close them or monitor them it's very likely a hacker can get anything they want on your system.

      Double Post Edited:
Also no I haven't bothered to look for the password. If SE spent the time to hide it because they don't want people finding it then I'll respect that choice by not searching for it. The only exception to this would be if I spot in my running logs that a source I don't know accessed a file under the final fantasy (POL) directory.

Yes, one way to prevent yourself from being hacked is to Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and check all running processes. Usuually they'll run it under Owner or whatever, but it's just safe to check everything. If you see anything suspicious, something with a random name, random letters, or something you know you aren't running, end the proccess. Eventually you'll become familiar with what usually runs and will be able to identify new proccesses.

out side game I've heard quite a lot about account hacking whether it's true or not. But supposedly some 3rd pary apps you run maybe able to monitor and capture your usename/password when you try to log into the game and send it to the apps owner...
ok, thx for your response. I was only looking at the ingame actions that could cause this, and not the out of game ones.

question: if you have gil stolen from you b/c you used 3rd party programs violating the TOS, and got hacked.... i don't know, get your gil back to get your acct canceled?

What I dont undestand about this is why the GM's care?!?

              - When I got 500k stolen from a Casino guy (i know I was dumb playing, but it was a long time ago when casinos first came out). The GM's told me that they couldnt do anything about it. Even though I had chat logs and everything.

That is because it was back then, the Rules have changed, and now it is against the rules to scam in almost any way now ^.^

Okay an update on this. Someone has provided some proof that the screenshots are fake. Found out about it on a livejournal community:

                    http://www.livejournal.com/community...5466#t17365466

I tried it out myself in photoshop and verified that what the poster says about the image is true.

EDIT: I'm not saying this is rock hard inrefutable evidence. Just saying that it's a good indicator and this community is claiming that it's a scam. Read the comments and decide for yourself.
