    My understanding from some researched reports of claiming these NMs is that there's approximately a 400-500 millisecond delay after a mob pops in which job abilities and spells do not work and may delay you being able to use them again. From what I saw described, it basically made it so that not only could a bot not claim an NM, but anyone spamming a /targetnpc macro would also be unable to claim it. It basically forces you to manually target and use your reaction skills.

    More skill, less carpal tunnel.

      MMOs shouldn't require ungodly quick reflexes like you describe. If I want that I will play a FPS. Reaction Time != Skill.

      That said, I don't agree with bots either.

      I know, I've killed him in 15ish. I'm just saying, they should have put some system into account for it, not everyone has that amount of BLMs or Summoners to drop his life fast.

        Only problem is what if some rival LS decides to stall it just to enrage the HNM and screw your LS over?
        If an enraged HNM is allowed to clear its hate list (everyone is dead or has logged/left zone), the rage counter has been observed to reset. Simply don't engage immediately (or face the consequences).

        When we're on our game, my HNMLS has taken down Fafnir in as little as 17 minutes, and Nidhogg in 29, but I know a lot of LS take a lot longer. I've seen 2.5 hour battles with Fafnir before. This is overall a nice change, as it doesn't impact the good players much, and will at least force everyone to waste a lot less time.

          Hmmm... sortof reminds me of "Kazzak is Supreme" Vinen

          The changes seem interesting, and watching the gil sellers run around dying horribly was absolutely hilarious.

          Though I do disagree on your statement that the timer should be "balanced" to the raid group. I'm tired of seeing 8 person groups kill Fafnir (3 WAR/NIN and the rest were basically mages) kill Fafnir, while skillful, it's just a pain in the butt to see groups that don't have the numbers waltz in and take forever on Fafnir. So what it just means is that for things like Fafnir you should engage with 18 people. There's plenty of ways to deal damage to him without relying on SMN or BLM in the allotted time before he goes enraged (my favourite is using BST with a Familiar'd Darter pet... probably deals most damage to Fafnir out of any class, heh).

            I think SE was also a little fed up with us killing their Gods of the gmae with such ease, even if it did take sometime. In other FFs, Behemoth alone was one of the most feared mobs, and is now being soloed. Even in the originals you had 3-4 people fighting it! Anyways all the Chaos Clocks are a welcome change, and add a new edge of intesity when fighting HNMs when it comes to holding it, waiting for backup and trying to kill it before it goes berserk. Should be interesting!

            And about the /ra thing, agian the mob has to be in a direct line with you, /ra doesnt work if its like at a 40 degree angle from you so it wouldnt really matter if they spammed.

            And about reaction time, I mean there isnt many other ways to distrubute NM Claiming other than this. I mean before the patch you didnt have to bot or spam skills to be good, it was all about doing it at the right time. FFXI isnt just an MMO, it has many aspects of many games.

              Looks like square has totally changed the dynamic of the HNM camping and fighting.

              I also think there should be alot of people who feel really stupid right now for cursing square and saying they were doing nothing about the problems in this game when they were in fact working on a solution behind the scenes.

              The only thing I blame square for is being so secretive about them working on a solution.

                  First: I can confirm that /ra is blocked. I've tried spamming darts on popped monsters, and it doesn't work.

                  Secondly: While I agree the patch is awesome to prevent people from holding (We have that problem on my server for Fafhogg by a JP LS. Also glad to hear that KB might finally be an option, he's only been killed a handful of times by NA's on my server [Not including the douchebags that steal it]), I do like the small-member fights. When you have 3+ parties at Fafnir, it's just too incredibly easy. I can completely fuck up with Utsusemi (Which I tend to do with so many people there since it's a rather boring fight then and I don't pay much attention) and not have to worry about dieing at all. When you're there with less then two parties though, that's when the fight is actually fun. You have to stay on your toes and actually pay attention, because nobody will be there to pick up your slack.

                  I'm pretty disappointed that SE's solution to us killing their "HNMs" with easy is to nerf us and buff them rather then adding new content, but meh...better then nothing.
