    FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Jul. 27)

    At the following time, we will be performing a FINAL FANTASY XI(Windows) version update. This update will not be accompanied by server maintenance. Usual play may continue for FINAL FANTASY XI. Thank you.

    *The client software will also be updated at this time. The client update will begin once you connect to FINAL FANTASY XI. Please follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

    [Important Update Details]
    - An issue wherein FINAL FANTASY XI would terminate for users of 32MB VRAM (video memory) graphic cards or graphic chipsets will be addressed.

    * This fix is not intended to make FINAL FANTASY XI compatible with PCs that do not meet the minimum spec.

    Does someone have the same problem: I did all things in the update but then an Error popped. I retried many times but then canceled. Now if I wanna click Play it says "The last FINAL FANTASY XI version update was not completed correctly. Please reinstall FINAL FANTASY XI." Any suggestions ; ;?

        I had those problems w/ an update a while ago. Sadly as far as I know the only option is to reinstall.

          Cant someone upload those update files so we just put them in the folder and try it again?

            I just returned to FFXI a couple days ago and still don't know how I feel about it. Having to take a couple hours to reinstall and update FFXI because SE fudged an update and doesn't bother to put in a system to roll back said update is bringing me dangerously close to saying to hell with this game again. Not off to a good start so far.

              I've had to reinstall FFXI a total of 4, maybe 5 times. The majority of those were while I was on a dialup connection, that was depressing.

                I just tried copying the 3 files over from a system that patched fine, didn't work. I also tried copying over every file in the mail folder, didn't work either. There's obviously a file buried somewhere that says that the last patch failed. I just have no ide where to fine it.

                Trying to copy over the whole Final Fantasy XI folder from my girlfriend's computer, which patched fine now. Hopefully this works. A lot ofaster copying 6.4 gigs over the networks, rather than installing and having to patch.

                  How do I fix this WITHOUT having to reinstall FFXI? ><

                  I tried renaming some files from the POL viewer and even replaced it, it's definitely not something in the POL Viewer that tells it my previous ffxi update failed :S

                    Ok, I even tried copying the whole Final Fantasy XI folder from my girlfriend's computer and it still said I had to reinstall. So it's not a file. Next logical choice, it's in the windows registry. I started poking around and found out that when you fail an update it simply removes the registry key for the install path for FFXI.

                    Location:
                    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineUS\InstallFolder

                    On the right there should be 3 keys and the key 0001 will probably be blank. That is the key that points to your FFXI folder. Right click it and go to modify. In the Value data box type in the path to your FFXI folder. (i.e. C:\Program Files\Play Online\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\)

                    When I went to launch FFXI I got an error saying that there was a problem with the hard drive, I clicked retry and now it's doing a full file scan.

                    UPDATE!
                    Ok after checking 12245 files, downloading 1 file and installing 12245 files (which didn't take very long) I am able to play again.

                    Without reinstalling.

                    My guess would be that you could do the registry modification above and just do a full file scan to fix any messed up patches.
