  • FFXI crash with Dual PSX-USB Adaptor

    Hi,

FFXI closes itself after some time for some unknown reason when I play with the Dual PSX-USB adpator (converter to play with a PS2 controller on PC). On KillingIfrit one said I had to disable Force Feedback cuz FFXI is buggy at that point, but it still crashes when I disabled it. Does anyone else have a converter and had this problem? Or if u have a converter can you please tell me what drivers I have to use?

    Thank You.

I think the problem is the driver that comes with the adaptor. What you need to do is uninstall the adaptor, and then plug the adaptor back in and let Windows use its default gamepad driver (that should work in Windows XP; anything older, I don't know). You won't get force feedback, but that's probably preferable to having the game crash every few minutes, right?

Actually I didn't install drivers from the converter I took my brothers converter while he's at my dads place to test it with FFXI so I don't know where he put the cd with drivers for it. I downloaded some drivers from internet but prolly not the drivers ment for the adapter... Anyway, how do I uninstall the adapter? Device manager?

You can probably uninstall it from Game Controllers in the Control Panel.

I know that but it tells me to uninstall from the device manager but I can't seem to find it anywhere there...

            EDIT:

I found it ^^ there were no drivers installed for it O_O I installed like 3 drivers for USB controllers anyway I pressed reinstall drivers and I told XP to search for drivers on the driver disc included, hope it works fine now. *fingers crossed*

            EDIT:

Nope still crahes, I'll uninstall it and let WinXP install it like u said.

            EDIT:

Also, I uninstalled a wrong driver because before that I could hit Vibrate in the FFXI config menu but after that install it was disabled and now after the uninstall & a reboot it's still a disabled button O_O and the converter supports vibration...

            Post Edited:
These are the drivers installed for the controller:

Device Type: Universal Serial Bus controllers
            Manufacturer: VIA Technologies
Location: PCI bus 0, device 9, function 2

            Driver Provider: Microsoft
            Driver date: 1/06/2002
            Driver Version: 5.1.2600.0
            Digital Signer: MS WinXP publisher

Anyone has a more recent or a working driver for a "Super Box 4 Dual PSX-USB" converter?

            EDIT:

Well I think this is actually not the controller O.o but when I uninstalled it in device manager it didn't reappear and I thought it was that. Now its even worse now I can't install a driver for it....

            Double Post Edited:
Here's a FFXI live chat from the support section:

FFXI TSR Jon: What gamepad are you using and is it listed in the supported gamepads on playonline.com?
Me: it's a simple question with hopefully a easy solution
Me: I bought it from ebay, it's a "Super Box 4"
FFXI TSR Jon: So is mine...a simple question.
Me: well it works in the FFXI config
Me: and it also works ingame but after some time FFXI shuts down
Me: um where is that compatiblity list please?
FFXI TSR Jon: Under getting started and windows....
FFXI TSR Jon: Left hand side of the page.
Me: ok I'm on the playonline.com now I'll check it, hang on
Me: well not many controllers listed there though
Me: mine isn't listed but several other people play with similar converters and they do work
            Me: which aren't listed either
Me: and I asked people on FFXI forums and one said it's because of the force feedback so I diabled it but still no result
FFXI TSR Jon: Well they may be able to help you...I would ask them...since your using a third party gamepad...that is not listed in our compatable gamepad list.
Me: they said to use the original Windows XP driver
Me: and I did but still the game crashes
Me: and there's no log file or POL error so I don't know what exactly is causing it
FFXI TSR Jon: Then I would try one of the controllers that we have tested and confirmed to be compatable with this game.
Me: Yeah I agree but still I think FFXI should work if I would do the right settings
Me: and those logitech controllers cost ALOT more than just an easy converter
Me: I was hoping you would know what I could do to fix it
Me: Yesterday I played FFXI for the first time with a controller and it's so much cooler /sigh
Me: Maybe you can suggest anything for me?
FFXI TSR Jon: Sorry we dont have any info on equip that is not listed as compatable with this game....
            Me: Oh I see
Me: Well I hope people from FFXI forums can get me a solution then.
Me: Anyway, thanks for your time and have a nice day
Still no solution, can anyone please help me? This is so frustrating.

Re: FFXI crash with Dual PSX-USB Adaptor

              Happened with me too.

Disable vibration - feedback option. Enjoy.

Also mine requires me to unplug and replug the controller in the adaptor after each bootup or the input goes crazy.

Re: FFXI crash with Dual PSX-USB Adaptor

Ok, I haven't treid to disable the vibration, I'll do that now. Post the result.

                edit:

Hmm for some kind of weird reason after uninstalling the converter WinXP puts it under HID Compliant game controller in Device manager instead of USB controllers. Help! On the standard XP game controllelr settings there's no option to disable vibration...

Do I need to install drivers or somthing now? Help plz  :depress:

Re: FFXI crash with Dual PSX-USB Adaptor

Well I manged to install em and disable Vibration in the properties menu but now when I open the FFXI config and click on gamepad I get this error:

The instruction at "0x00ea1d00" referenced memory at "0x00ea1d00". The memory could not be "read".

And when hit the play button in POL viewer FFXI closes again but now it does exactly aafter hitting the button.

Re: FFXI crash with Dual PSX-USB Adaptor

The usb adapter error is rumble option.

If you keep it off, it shouldn't cause any problems.

S-E never really fixed that bug since back in the beta days.
