It's definitely from dropping pearl. My NPC hasn't died since the 21st. And I never change it's combat style from the time I first could. It seems SE has caught on to the dropping pearl exploit and made our npc revert to start gear. If would you read my NPC journal in my signature, you'd see that my npc was steadily advancing in armor upgrades until the 24th. Then, he started reverting and hasn't gain much in the way of gear since.

I seriously doubt it's from dropping the pearl. I've dropped my pearls fairly regularly and my Yoli has yet to downgrade her gear.

Related to this, I would also like to put forth the theory that the armor the NPCs appear to wear is not the armor we adventurers have to choose from. Yoli has yet to level (I'm exping in the areas just outside Jeuno), but she's using what looks like either plate or Darksteel plate armor, which is unavailable until beyond level 40. Let your NPC take some hits with various different armors and see if the damage they're actually taking varies.

Now my Yoli is wearing starting RSE hands, legs; chocobo vest, and gaiters of some sort. I don't really care about her armor much, she's just a few CUre IIIs and eye candy to me. ^^

Volkai, I did some research last night. Some of the gear that looks like level 40 gear can in fact be level 9. For instance, lvl 40 Gauntlets look like lvl 9 Coarse Gauntlets. Lvl 40 Plate Leggings look like lvl 9 Coarse Leggings.

I've yet to find anything that looks like lvl 40 Cuisses, however. As such I'm willing to back off my original hypothesis.

But something screwy is going on in my opinion and its driving me crazy trying to make a pattern of it.

I haven't given sword to my NPC so I can't tell.
I tried G Katana tho, I really couldn't give Tachi (level 8) at first. But after the weapon upgrade I could. strange that the upgrade's lower level

Ok, after 41 minutes and some odd seconds Yoli gave me the "I didn't realize it was so late" excuse and disappeared on me. We were leveling in Xarcabard, and there was a lot of downtime. Hmm. =/

A mistake on S-E's part most likely...will haev to find out if she hits harder or not...but gotta hurdle the step for weapon upgrade 3!

Something else I noticed, she just used Leg Sweep, at level 33. >_> Something makes me think if the dice roll in my favor she'll use Penta Thrust and whoop out some proper damage.

Perhaps Tachi is a more powerful type of Katana? It seems that in the second set of weapons none of them are necessarily higher level but that the weapons belong it a different type... for example, Degens are swords just like Longswords are, but they generally deal less damage and have a lower delay than Longswords.

I think they learn the ws at the lvl you would normally learn it with an A+ weapon. Mine learned Freezebite on Great sword. So maybe they'll be able to use Rampage(axe) at 55, Guillotine(scythe) at 60, Spinning Slash(Gsword) at 66, etc

Do not give hand to hand weapon to ur npc when u set it to healer ; ;
One thing i notice is that healer has no hand to hand skill and martial art ability.
They swing with only one fist per round and the delay is horrible.
However, i would love to see if it will cast haste on me when i get it to Lv40, that will be every melee's dreams.
