It's definitely from dropping pearl. My NPC hasn't died since the 21st. And I never change it's combat style from the time I first could. It seems SE has caught on to the dropping pearl exploit and made our npc revert to start gear. If would you read my NPC journal in my signature, you'd see that my npc was steadily advancing in armor upgrades until the 24th. Then, he started reverting and hasn't gain much in the way of gear since.

They did this w/o server maintenance... right.

well i'll try drop my pearl today and find out. My NPC currently wearing all plates now i'll post screenshots soon.

First edit - I threw my pearl away yesterday. So if it downgrades the armor, I should see it after this call.


Second edit - after the first call, I threw my pearl away and meet my NPC at rendezvous point. I think she upgrades her glove to centurian. I'm not sure if the body is upgrade or downgrade : / ?


bringing her to xacabard, will see what she wears afterwards.

someone was talking about a pattern earlier, i don't remember what page, but it was like 3 5 8 etc, is it just me, or it like the fibonacci sequemce? 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, etc? also, npc and pet -exp stacks, and so far, the npc is the best thing to happen to bst for me at least since plvling, i'll post more later, i'm at 8 kills right now, somewhere close to 40 min of exping, she's still kicking ^^

Mine hasn't ever reverted to starting gear, she just switches it in and out randomly. She's gone back and forth from scale, to lizard, to starting RSE. It's awfully weird.

You should know by now they can do certain changes server side without bringing down the servers.

At the following time, we performed a FINAL FANTASY XI(Windows) version update. This update was not accompanied by server maintenance. Usual play may continue for FINAL FANTASY XI. Thank you.

Since this change would only need to be server side, we needn't had downloaded anything.

Besides, I have no other way of explaining the downgrades on my npc. If other ppl have plausible explanations, I'll listen.

do we honestly know they are downgrades? some gear looks the same and is higher level, but in any case, have u noticed their gear to evne make any difference?

You make a good point. and I don't think any of us have a way of noticing sometimes. but scale looks like scale and iron looks like iron, etc. But, you can't tell sometimes.

now my NPC looks like this. Are those newbie lvl 1 gloves and shoes? Throwing away pearl might have some effects. need more experiment.

wrong in a Way Jei... she has no gloves or shoes.... that's what our hands and feet look like with nothing on them. Maybe she's broke and waiting for farm

edit - i guess to be able to really compare... i'll ask my GF not to throw her pearl away. If her NPC keeps upgrading then we'll have more solid proove.

dispite armor, 2x xp a day still beats anything. At this point, having them higher level means more power anyway, and possiblity unlock more things.

It just occured to me. I think most of us would be happy if our npcs could just kill 30 mobs on one pearl use instead of dropping and getting another pearl. Maybe if we sent in suggestions they'd change it? Like if we drop a pearl we'd have to wait 20 hours to use it (or what ever time was left on the pearl), but in return we get to kill 30 mobs instead of 15 every 20 hours.

What do ppl think? Or should i make a new thread and make this a poll? Just curious.

either way, giving us more time to play NPC will always be great. Or make it into an ability instead of item

maybe she's wearing those armlets, like the scentless armlets or new moon armlets
