Just maybe the npc wouldnt stay as long if they hate you (or base of 15 fights) The more they like you the more fights they will stay... or they cure you at red hp instead of orange or yellow.. or cure status slower etc. and maybe they stop warning you at ws or stop provoke etc...

Well my npc stayed for at least 20 fights last night. Haven't tried dropping it yet. This might just be an idil threat by SE to buy time until they program a real fix.

If you wear the exact same armor as your NPC he never goes away

Mine stayed for about 20 fights also. She is level 40 now.

How fast do these NPCs level? How many exp points between levels do they have? Seems awful quick between levels

Today my Yoli decided not to tell me she was out of MP until after I was dead. I ended the fight with 200 HP wondering why she wouldn't heal me, then died to poison effects, still wondering why she wasn't doing anything. I died, she disappeared and said "Whoops! I'm almost out of MP!"

I read a report on Allakhazam that someone lost the ability to change his NPC's appearance (headgear) after dropping the pearl, but the NPC still had their headgear on
