Lifespan of FFXI???

How much longer will FFXI be up and going.I see they are very good and adding new stuff recently(getting on after an update is frustrating as hell)

My wife and I are totally addicted to the game and we are wondering how long will we be playing until the servers go away? 2 more years?5 more years?For all eternity?

Also has anybody uncovered the new synth recipies?

Ultima ONline is still going...that is about 7-8 years now, EverQuest is still going and thats like 5-6 years I think, sorry if I get the years wrong.... really dont konw :p but they are close

Im hoping it last awhile. Like at least 5 more years.Me and the wife pay 30 bucks a month for our accounts(2 main accounts and 4 mules).Its like my escape from work and the kids so I dont want it to go away anytime soon

Seeing as the original EQ has been going for... many years.... with no plans of shutting down, I'd think accordingly of FFXI, which has been just about as successful.
Even when they've decided to finally stop running servers, they'll probably release some patch to make it possible for you to run the game offline- or a 'private server' type of software that will allow people by then (I'm sure in 2020 _modern_ household PC will have the ability to run this type of thing, even for a large amount of people) to run their own server.

i doubt it'l ever go 'out'... unless square um.. shuts down.

if they ever go out i think they will sell the servers and let some other company take care of it, like some other games where same thing happened

still... ... i doubt ffxi will go out before you lose interest, or die from old age :p

anyway, what kind of question is that, it's only just started..

Yep I got very lucky.She went through withdraws like me and we read all the info we could on the game.We are rather new to the game been playing a bout a month together.She really enjoys it and that makes me happy cause i dont get yelled at for playing to long

Hell yes, I hope the gilsellers will go away when ppl loose intrest and alot leave. An end game server with about 500 ppl on it would be quite nice lol. Is gillselling still a big issue on ultima and eq? or can u just hack money on those?

As long as they keep the game going with updates, punishment of the wicked, and expansions, It will be a very long while until this game shows signs of elderlyness.

Take a look at UO and EQLive. They are the original MMORPGs ( excluding NWN ), and yet they still have the highest usercount in NA.

You are correct. Ultima Online will be 8 years old in September of this year. Everquest turned 5 in March of this year. Anarchy Online turned 4 in June.

MMO's stay around as long as there are people to play them. It doesn't look like FFXI is declining at all. Don't worry you'll know when the game is slowing down and it looks grim. Who knows you might have already quit long before then!

FFXI has been quite fun in the times that I've played it (2 years for me in september) and I have a playtime of only well 60 days. compared to most thats not much but I have accomplished alot in that amount of time and if they keep the new quests coming (Hopefully new jobs in the near future to experience new techniques and Skill chains with.) What I really hope for is that they start taking some Public Requests from the Gaming community's such as maybe be fan websites like Allazkazham. or ffxionline =D. I would certainly like to see some magical affects from Magic bursting considering your doing 4-5x more damage then the skill chain itself. Another thing I would like to see happen is there allow more smoother and crystal clear graphics for when Xbox360 comes out I would like to play with 512mg Graphical Effects >). There are alot of improvements that could be done, its all in the matter of when, when the Dev team listens to the community. This will definately pro-long the game even more and enthuse people to play more often. But that's just my 2pennies. =)
