  • Hmm - Race converter?

I hear åpeople talking, and see screens of this "race converter" but I'm not able to find anything else about it anywhere?

Anyone have links or can tell me how to get it/how it works?

ive heard/read you can change your char model to look different when you play. instead of black hair, have pure white hair. as for changing the race, havent heard of it. an dont think it exists

          Re: Hmm - Race converter?

There's a Race Converter somewhere that swaps out all the .dat files so your character looks like a completely different race to you. Of course you'll still have the stats of your original race and no one else will see you any different, but you can do it for your own pleasure.

Or you could just eat some of the race changing food.

              Re: Hmm - Race converter?

there is a race "converter" that allows you to change from any race to any race. it's purely client side though. no one else will see your changes. i'll see if I can dig up the link (the instructions and UI is in JP though). oh btw, it's PC onry.

However, use at your own risk. It has been reported that some people have had their entire game screwed up by it. So much so that they needed to reinstall.

              Thanks Yyg!

Hey, where did you hear about this? It might be a little handy.
When I first started playing, and chose the facial features for my character.... after about a month spending time with it, I don't feel quite happy about what I have chosen.

There's no problem with the race. I LOVE playing a Mithra. (and have done since I first started. Although, I did give myself a choice between that, and a Taru, both my favourite races, but in the end I went for Mithra)

But if there was SOME way that I could JUST change the hair type (colour, and style) to a different one on there, (without starting all over again with a new character) then I would be all the more happier for it.
At the moment, it's a ginger colour with the pig tails hanging down by the side of the face, and I WISH to God I hadn't chose that now, as I don't really like it after all. /sigh

                  Re: Hmm - Race converter?

You switch the .dat files in the ROM folders of your FFXI folder on your PC. If you arent on PC then you're outta luck.

I suggest, if you are on PC, to get the modelviewer. It will let you see the file number for the equipment, face, hair, whatever you would like to change. This is how the we were able to see the relic WS without having to unlock them.

If you wanted to edit the .dats i have a guide but you will need a program such as Photoshop or something like it. Heres the guide's site: http://csce.unl.edu/~ijones/ffxi/

                    Re: Hmm - Race converter?

This isn't really a hack or anything, more just a program which swaps .DAT files, but I will still warn you, use any 3rd party programs at your own risk, and don't do anything unless you know what you're doing. With 3rd party programs, you carry the risk of being banned by Square Enix, or even having your account information stolen by the creator of such programs. If you try to do such things yourself with little knowledge of the subject, you can screw up your installation of the game. Be careful!

Program, instructions, and a bit of help if needed. The program is in Japanese, so make sure to read before you start pressing buttons.

Nny from this forums showed screenshots of that program. He used it when his LS (Kupo) went to kill Jorgy. It reduces the amount of lag ebcause you are only laoding one race, and a small one at that, so its good for things such as dynamis runs and big HNM kills.

What .dat changing? Yea you could do that but its a little out of the way. You also have to d/l the windower onto that HDD and who knows if that would do something to the PS2.

                              Re: Hmm - Race converter?

This program works well, but it doesn't change any .DAT files luckily. It modifies the values of a table the game references when searching for the right .DAT files for your race/sex. So if you screw up and the reset button in the program fails you work, you only have to replace that one file. Here is a sample of me converting all my friends to tarus:

Can anyone spot the real taru in the above picture?
