Don't get confused on what is your system creating the lag and what is the network.
FINAL FANTASY XI, for those that don't know enforce a 56k transfer rate, so faster connections mean little to it. This also creates an equal playing field for dial-up users. So network wise as long as you have a good 56k connection you don't need to worry.
Now things such as zonning and system loading multiple objects, that is a latency related to your system not the network. If you get a good computer you can beat a lot of people through zones and Jeuno will be a walk in the park.
Also if you don't know the PC version allows you to control the number of objects it attempts to load. So if Jeuno or the likes is were you are having trouble just reduce the number of objects it attempts to load and you'll be fine, granted this will mean that you may not see the person standing next you then if you reach that object limit.
