God, I don't know how I could live without the ability to switch freely between windows, now that I've pretty much stopped playing games on the PC

I think I'd throw up blood if I had to deal with another application that I liked to use that crashed upon alt tabbing, or just prevented me from alt tabbing.

I think the majority of the people that use Windower don't want it for the cheats (of course, there are always people that do), but for the actual windower mode itself...if S-E installed an official windower half of the problems with this would be solved, imo.

The fact that the windower allow you to run FFXI in a window isn't the only advantage it gives over other players. The latest version allow you to write plug-ing for it. There are already plug-ins that allow you to see alot more than other players, using TParty you can see the TP and MP of everyone in your party or allience. Distance tell you how far away from your target you are with the version seen at http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4...stance20mk.jpg telling you when you're in range for certain actions.

The next version see at windowerpreview.png not only adds IME support to the NA version but allows other things such as the time stamps see in the screenshot, allowing people to get ToDs while AFK.

Its not just knowing where to look that gives you an unfair advantage.

Some people will call it unfair, others will call it no-issue, and still others will call it much needed.

You only state your own opinions when you call it unfair advantage.

After all nothing is truely equal. I can play more then you, I can have more mules then you, I can have more computers then you, I have a lower ping time then you, I can get more friends then you, I'm taller then you...

For example,
ToD is nothing new. Anyone with the ability to script can macros /clock every 5 minutes, and was done long ago, without the need for windower. You can say it's easier because it''s incorporated, but changes reality very little.

Does windower make you a god like player? No.
Does it make you a better player? Not likely.
Does it give you adavantage? probably
Does it really matter? Not likely.

I don't go whining if someone mentions that they can make tons of gil by using 3 accounts and 6 mules. I don't try to match it either.

The "unfair advantage" line shouldn't be use so casually because it'll ultimately fail you as a ideological equality(Doesn't exist). It should only be used when there is such a large gap, it's "Cheating".

I've stated before that I think SE shot themselves in the foot by gimping Rng because it will drive more ppl to windower just so they can play consistently well. ;;

Then why draw the line there?

Why not buy gil, why not use provoke bots or fishing bots?

Its possible to gain loads of gil without buying it. So it doing so really giving you an advantage?

Its possible to out provoke bots so is using one really giving you an advatage?

Its possible to fish all day, so what's wrong with using a bot?

One fact still remains. They are all against the ToS.

Anyway, I don't think it's related to cheating or anything... Most companies don't like 3rd party programs that alter the program they made... that's all. >.>; Like Gravity would spend time killing EXP/HP viewer on iRO, rather than dealing with bots.

Well, best solution is for SE to make a windower themselves, but I doubt they will ever...

What are the problems of making a MMO windowed? I thought they can always make something to block cheating in windowed mode.

I think it should have stayed a simple alt+tab check info thing none of this plug-ins stuff.

Now if it can dectect fog weather in lufise medows for me then I'll get one, hunting cluster cores for that CoP mission is a pain in my ass

I dont know if this was in windower or not but i was in a pt once that after every battle was concluded, it would mention how much damage everyone did against the mob(s). I thought it was pretty nifty and with everyone having mps in that pt, and keeping up the enfebeling, showed I was a pretty busy rdm. It didn't show DoT like Dia, Bio only initial damage but, it did show how often I was able to actually throw a direct damage spell in.... not much lol.

When I was a noob doing AF 1, sure I checked it out on the net, at work when boss wasn't looking and didn't print it b/c boss would have noticed then and when I went to do it, well, the gamefaqs one still didnt say what to do with the ??? or where the storage pit spawned, and it only had anything for AF1. but to say if SE made FFXI alt-tab able gave an unfair advantage to pc users, then why make it for pc? it's not a console. but right now everyone's consensus ingame is everyone's on PC though I know that not to be true and for most PS2 users thier information network is LS. so before I found this site at work, why before that did I not know everything about FFXI? I borrowed my friend's strat guide for a day, (he wanted it back) but I didn't notice it was complete. didn't tell me i needed 3 keys to go to kahzaam, where to get those keys or that is where everone levels 25-30ish. so the only option available for SE to eliminate the "unfair advantage" is to wipe everyone's maps, memory and only allow FFXI players on PS2 who do not have any other way to access the internet.

FFXI should already be alt-tab able on PC, and if it was I'd feel sorry for the PS2 11thf/no sub lfp in Valkrum Dunes for days at a time. I was told not to play thf (at least start) because they had to go thru that. since you can't "soft afk" (i'm in the room and if i could configure FFXI to <ping> me when I get a /tell or invite I could do SOMETHING other than look at my avatar w/ an (!) over his head. I always run in to people who are lfp but afk and that's so annoying....

to touch upon a topic earlier, when Blizzard/WoW goes down for a day, they credit everyone a day, plus you don't have plants you spent hours farming to garden them, die on you. please be a little bit more sympathetic... or if you could care less and don't do gardening, what if that was the only day you could play out of the week? you can't play one day and the next week you spend downloading update, so to that person they lost 1/2 of a month of play time. sure the 1 day credit wouldnt affect them much, but it would show SE cares and gives a dang. which, i think is the point they were getting at.

Against the ToS = Punishable.

You aggreed to it to start with, so don't come and say "Well this is benign." It is upto SE to judge and see how Benign it is.

As for SE not taking actions to curb the events.

Rusty cap got nerfed (about a week to 2 weeks after it became wide spread).

NM Stealing just got nerfed via the /blockaid command, shortly after there was wide spread complain.

Change in the service agreement just recent got changed to make scamming punishable.

Changes does happen. Instead of saying "SE don't listen to the player base", let me ask you.. how many of you whistled blowed on Rusty Caps? If you didn't then YOU are also partially responsible for the current inflation. It isn't just SE whos responsiblity it is to make this game playable. You as a player have the personal responsibility as well.

As for the windower, I think it should have stayed the alt-tab program it originally was. The new plug-ins (so far) are nice additions, but until they are sanctioned by SE, they are still considered hacks.

As for Model Viewer and Log Parser, they don't interface with POL. They read files that is not part of the POL Process. They never interfact with POL while its running. Not in the same class as "hacks"

All of the plug-ins for Windower you just described are common features in many of the MMORPGs out there right now.

And this is not every other MMO, this is FFXI. SE can run their game however they gd please so there is no sense in comparing it to another MMO unless the same company runs it.

I agree with Grandmom here, you cant say "ph but this MMO has this same feature build in" because FFXI is not other MMOs FFXI is fine as is, and the windower should have stayed just a windower, but since it did not SE started to ban for them, but I still dont agree with how saver a ban people are getting, that guy almost got perma banned -.- thats over doing it
