Well, if windower were the target, they ought to have examined the changes the patch makes to it. Which is, basically, no change at all apart from it being fixed atop everything. Rather dumb to release a patch that does nothing at all.

So I don't think Windower was the primary target of this. Or the SE headquarter guys got a lil too drunk. Or are just plain dense.

the flee cheat has been around for ages. i can remember talking about this when i first started this game, an visited this forum for the first time. an its been only recently that i noticed players keepin up wiht me an my 25% movement speed boots.=/

i just think its funny that some jp's have had it for a very long while. an once it became public to the rest of the NA community, S.E jumps right in an puts a stop to it..

'Cause they gotta figure out what does it, and them see if it's possible to fix without breaking the whole building, so to say.

There are just some things that can't be fixed easily. It's reality we're talking about here. Many things in the world, like world hunger can be fixed, but to achieve it means changing almost every person's lifestyle, so not happening anytime soon.

Well on the flip side and bash S-E a little, they never implimented counter measures either, and now it's biting them in the rear. Put some GM tools into the server, and you can make it very hard to do it and not get caught. Though if WoW is any indication, trying to prove the guilty isn't that easy.

Well the easy end all for those programs is for SE to investigate them. Find them get a hold of them and then just use check the systems version and use the appropriate API functions to look at running processes and force close any process that should not be open.

That's what I do with my Auto Email Response that's hooked up to our database and all at work. Kind of a pain that I had to build that thing, mostly because our exchange server loves to crash frequently. So I had to program in API functions to do SendMessageTimeout to check if Outlook hangs and if it does then it runs the ExitProcess API to force outlook close.

Those API functions are easy to monitor and so many multiple ways for it to function. Probably the smartest thing they can do is have it create a snapshots of the processes running then periodically or randomly take new snapshots to see if any new processes that it doesn't approve start up.

Problem is though if the system has any Auto-Update like functions then it could interfere with them. Other then that just creating an extensive database of known 3rd party programs to restrict and what they'd show up as on the processlist or what classname (and window name) they show up as. Then take snapshots and match the names to what's on the database, problem still is privacy issues.

If they set it up to were this runs client side then they'll probably have to start running a more day to day base update to keep that database up-to-date. Then if the hacker finds that database they could still alter it and then makes client side function useless. If they do it server side then they are getting a snapshot of your system and what programs you usually run, which if I recall is a violation of privacy.

The flee cheat has been around for a very long time. I know absolutely it was out at NA release. SE just wasn't threatened enough by it to do something drastic. Now that it has blossomed into more insidious cheats, they are stepping in.

Yes, that seems to follow SEs nature on doing something. Just like many shield before that a BST could use the NA version didn't give that detail because SE "didn't expect players to reach that high a level so fast."

Which is part of the reason I fall to saying I believe it was an attack to the windower just they most likely hoped that it would hold for at least a little while till they had something more permanent in place.
