I know how MORPGs are (Yes one M, the word massively is stupid)
uummm if you take the Massive out of MMORPG then it would be a diffrent type of game like PhantasyStar Online or Monster Hunter....and FFXI is not a MORPG it is a MMORPG, and complaining that an MMORPG is too hard is stupid, unlike the word Massive in MMORPG. Yes the game is dificult but if you work hard like you are supost to you will get far.

    you are complaining about nothing

Since when has any final fantasy been easy to complete, and i mena do all the big bosses and etc, I think the element of hardness makes all levels that much sweeter when you get then, and when you reach mile stones you feel proud of your achievement, maybe thats just me, but i think that the hardness makes the game interesting, many other MMORPGS i have played are either to easy or mindnumbingly boring, so thats why i like FFXI ^^

in FFX you could beat the game without even touching the sphere grid....leaving everyone with like 100-200hp, low str, etc. you could say thats not hard either >.>

In other FFs, leveling comes naturally with the story, more or less. I don't ever recall having to go excessively out of my way just to grind levels to see the story in another FF.

That's not true in FFXI, where leveling and story are at almost complete polar opposites, and unlike other FFs, something like 90%+ of the average player's gametime will probably be spent grinding levels (or LFG in order to grind levels).

And FFXI is not a console RPG. Simple as that. Its a MMORPG which puts it in another class entirely. It's not supposed to be like its predecessors. It's not supposed to be easy or quick.

I agree. It shares a lot more similarities with say, Everquest, than it does with other Final Fantasies.

It's basically Everquest done in Final Fantasy "style" or "flavor".

i played and liked the old school FF more than the newer ones... so endless grinding was always needed you know... all the way from 1 to 7.

Yeah....ALL oldschool RPGs and most you had to endlessly grind and grind and grind until you got enough money/levels to advance in story. 2DFFseries, most of DWseries, Mother1&2, Lufia1&2, Robotrek, BoF series, Crystalis, etc.

Marsh Cave....you know what I'm talking about =P

I've not played every single FF, but excessive grinding was not necessary in the ones I've played - IV, VI, VII, VIII, X.

At least -I- didn't need to.

4 and 6 I've never played it without grinding hehe so I don't know. When I played 4, the first grind I did was right when Cecil converts to paladin and became level 1. I always grind right there just to get his HP up to 4 digits xD Needed or not I don't know but I just want him to have that HP. Same as 6, I grind at the magic tower until Tina, Celes and Stragus at least learnt quick, ultima and aspir. And all the other neat spells too.

5 you can play with very little grinding too. But without having all the job alibities the game wouldn't be as much fun. I remember grinding right when I got ninja job til it's mastered just because I want to use nitouryuu with other jobs.
