I always recommend the guide to new players. There is enough useful info in it for them that you can overlook spelling errors and a few informational errors. Many new players don't know where to look for info either and not everyone can print stuff out. As long as they are aware they might run into a few errors, I think the guide is perfectly fine for new players.Originally posted by FebaBut I mean I do not mind a good looking man so long as I do not have to view his penis.Originally posted by TaskmageGod I hate my periods. -The general tactics on how to play WAR. Brady makes WAR sound like nothing but a poor man's PLD instead of an all-around melee.
-The statement that BSTs will cause parties to suffer exp penalties when in reality the BSTs only really affect their own exp.
-A lot of weapon effects and damage values are completely off, sometimes my differences of as much as 30. That's not just a typo, that's a monumental error.
-They think MNK/SAM can be a viable combination. I mean, what the hell.

I used the guide when I first started the game, and let me tell you it helped me huge. I still look to it for information every once in a while. I am stuck not being able to print a lot of stuff from the net so I use it when needed. I will agree that some of their Job/Sub combos probably are not the best choice in the world but they do try to explain why there are better choices. All in all it is a good guide to use in a bind or to start off with. I would probably not get a new version if they did come out with one though. Nothing against a guide I just think between my LS and online friends I probably do not need anything else.30 Monk

having information at hand helps a lot. But personally if you can connect 2 PCs or laptop to the internest, using one of those to search up websites is a better way  so much more you could find on the net with almost always up to date informations. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

I own the first two Brady FFXI guides and I can honestly say that I never use them. They do have some limited useful information in them that may be of use to someone that does not have an extra PC to look info up with but the overall these guides are not worth the money. My major problem with these guides was that even when they were brand new they were already badly outdated and lacking so much information about the game. I would advise anyone thinking about purchasing these guides to just save their money because they are most definitely not worth paying for.
P.S. I'm not anti-Brady. I own many Brady guides for other SE games that I like and find useful but I really think that they have failed with the FFXI guides, the major problem being not able to publish an up to date and accurate product.

Heh, like people already said on here. Searching websites and you'll get a lot more info that's much more up-to-date. If you are going to suggest anything to someone by far better to suggest a good site that's more new player friendly then the guides.
Even thing with my own experiences I've found even websites to be incomplete in their data, but still is better then what you'll get from a guide.

the guide has lies in it, it made me look like the n00b i was back in the day when i was asking high lvl rdms why i couldnt find the flash spell under a list of our spells when the guide says rdms get flash at 40 something.
i'd buy the new guide just to have something to read while takin a crap. Why be like someone famous when you can be like me.
