Words you wished can be added to Translator.

You can tab-translate items (and key items) that were in your item/key item list the last time you brought up the full list (by tab-go to bottom, go into items section, Esc out). That list only holds the most recent 200 items you have "seen", whether it's by looking at your own inventory/mogsafe, checking someone, a bazaar, an NPC shop, some quest NPC telling you about an item, seeing someone else auto-translate it, looking it up in AH, etc.

So you can translate Hakutaku Eye Cluster, but to do that you need to a. see one (or have someone else autotranslate it at you), b. tab-items-Esc, and then you can autotranslate it.

I would agree with the "You're welcome." bit. As well as region names. It also wouldn't hurt if they added an autotranslator for the one normally accessible area (i.e. not Mordion Gaol) in the game that you can't auto-translate. For those who can't think of what it is ... think floating and wearing pumps.

For an example if you needed to sent a tell saying your welcome back to someone could you not just try:

/t "Persons Name" {/welcome}

I think maybe they might be able to get the hint. But I just usually bow instead of saying anything. Much easier I think.

No actually /welcome is more like Hello or Nice to see you than it is Your Welcome. I ran into some JP's that were like "HUH?" over that so I contacted a friend that lives in Japan. Some that are used to it being used like that might get it but not everyone. It's just asinine that Your Welcome isn't translated. It's simple courtesy that EVERYONE should do regardless of to whom.

Actually you can still do this;

Ex: If you want (Army's Paeon III) instead of (Army's Paeon)III
1) Go to your Jeuno Auction House
2) Scrolls -> Songs
3) Highlight Army's Paeon III Scroll
4) Exit the Auction House
5) Hit Space Bar (Opens up an Empty Char bar)
6) Hit Tab
7) Press Up once, highlight the [items] section of the translator and press Enter
8) Hit Esc twice to close the Translator and Chatbar
9) Hit Space Bar again
10) Type "Army" and press TAB key
11) You will now have the translations of Army's Paeon 1-5

I don't know a huge amount about Japanese, but from the little bit of romanji I know and how the Japanese language is structured it's the contextual nature of the language itself that probably presents the most problems. Things like "you're welcome" would be really nice, saying "iie desu" doesn't really get the same idea across but it's polite at least.

I wrote down the Japanese words for time units once but I left it when I moved. The "Looking for replacement" would be so handy too.

However, the best thing I can suggest is to check out some of the JP language guides for FFXI on sites like these (there's an awesome one over at KillingIfrit). It shows a major courtesy to the Japanese players and I think really helps improve relations. Usually if I can get a JP player into my pt using my broken japanese they're very eager to practice their english skills ^_^
