FFXI World Concept scan

Thanks to the POL login problem, I took my time off and found some lovely books at Kinokuniya
This one below, is "Final Fantasy XI: World Concept."
I've picked some of the very interesting concepts everyone may want to see
figured these are not screenshots but if any mods think it should be in that forum feel free to move.



please note that I don't want to push the book too hard with the scanner
so some images won't be too clear, plus the folds are in there too

Galka original concept. The lion head version looks really bad ass.
I might become a Galka if they stay with that design.

Woa! Those are awesome! I thought that was a male mithra in the first group pic though. XD I wish they made Taru look like that. : / Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore all Taru, but those Taru are like...magnificentaru!

[EDIT] I found two scans. One's a larger version of the Tarutaru, and another one is one of a very special location we all should be familiar with.

if they would have went with that lionhead/tiger type galka look, I bet the Galka population would be more like how the elvaan population is.

i actually like some of the original designs better... the gob an yagado look cooler to me. ohh man i remember what they look like. there the gremlins..

If the Tarutaru were not as... chubby-ish as they are now, I would have been one of them.

the original taru didn't look as cute but more mythical i think. Probably girls will pick em less

Don't worry, lots of people forget about that part of the site. I think FFXI is beautiful, but if everything looked like it did in the concepts... WOW it would have been the most beautiful looking thing ever.

Very nice looking. You can definately see the influence that Crystal Chronicals had upon Final Fantasy XI in its early development stages. I'm surprised that the Mithra don't look more like Selkies than they do now, given that I understand that it was the FF:CC designer who did most of the work on FFXI to start with.

And if it isn't obvious that the Taru were heavily influenced by the Lilties in FF:CC... both in overall design and in racial temperment.

I like some of these designs, but I guess they ended up wanting a more 'realistic' look to things.
