  • Alt codes?

I've seen people use some Alt codes in screenshots, like musical notes or stars. I was wondering how they do these?

    I'm talking about these:

    ★☆♪◯◎

I can't copy these and then paste them when I start the game up, so how can I do these when the game is up?

    I apprecaite any help.

Um, I believe you need a JP ver of FFXI to do it... =P

The only one I remember off the top of my head is alt+9999. This is kind of a star-ish shape (☼). I've found a few other neat ones but I don't remember what the numbers are.

For anyone that doesn't know what we are talking about, anywhere in windows where you can input text (including in FFXI) you can hold down the alt key, type a 4 digit number on the numpad, then let go of alt. This will put in the ASCII character that is associated with that number.

Many (if not most of these) will only yeild normal english characters. Another large section is foreign vowels, like the German vowels with umlats; or french accents. Some are also things like "TM" or a superset ^2 (squared) or ^3 (cubed).

        1. The easiest way is imho to have japanese input (IME) installed.

If you know the japanese words, you can convert them into the symbols.
For example if you type "hoshi" (in kana, means star) the stars will show up in the list, if you hit space, same with "onpu" (also in kana, means music note) and so on.

        2. You can also figure out the alt code, but this will most likely not work in FF11 (i tested it in MS Office though, i got the jp FF11 version and use the 1st way).
Go to Start > Run and type "charmap". A table with all Unicode characters should show up.
Choose a jp font and click on the desired character. At the bottom left you will see the code (U+xxxx).
Note: the code is hexadecimal, in order to get the alt+digit code, you have to convert the number into decimals (i.e. with the Windows calculator).
For the black star (see screenshot), the hex is 2605 > dec 9733 → alt+9733

You can do that in an editor and paste it into your macroes, but as Xyphere said you probably need jp FF11 to be able to actually type / paste it there.

          You do need JP FFXI inorder to type the Japanese symbols, such as the star and all... because I already tested with EN ver, and it just gave me a bunch of ??????? ;

I've also heard of using an app to create macros. Inside that app you can add such characters to your macros. But that wouldn't allow you to enter those in during just a normal /party, /say, /linkshell chat. From what I understand, it edits a flat file that stores your macro information.

Of course this is only available for the PC.

If you have JP IME installed, you can also type "kigou" ã??ã?”ã?† to bring up a list of about 250+ characters.
