          Tried out the lvl 70 Soldiers Earring the other day. The defense boost didnt kick in till I was at red hp

              I do not find this is not the case. You have to have both yellow hp and less than 100% tp to get the 5acc.
              Tested by stepping into qufim and removing my weapon and all equipment with +accuracy. This made seeker bats con as normal evasion. Equipping just haubergeon (10acc), just sniper ring (5acc), or just ronin ring(latent 5acc) left them at normal evasion. Equipping the ronin and the sniper or the ronin and the haubergeon left them at normal evasion. Equipping both the haubergeon and the sniper, however, took them to low evasion.
              Additionally, I did the same thing with various yagudo that happened to be in sauro while I was passing through. I don't recall the exact details of that test, other than using a tabar beak to get my HP to yellow and then confirming on a yagudo with my weapon off that going over 100% tp causes the ronin ring to stop working.

                            If a samurai wearing AF gloves eats a rice ball or the +1 version, then they get the extra latent affects. Different rice balls give different affects.

                              That is actually from the the AF Gloves for SAMs when they eat a rice ball with the AF it gives those exact stats. I think it's the Shogun Rice Ball that does that stat.

                                Nope, not high enough level.
                                But had a friend test it yesterday and as you said, it's Yellow HP(75%hp) AND TP below 100%
